It's cool, it draws from both my logo and Peet's logo.

I tried to incorporate all examples, suggestions and discussion in the logo, but yeah.. I don't know, I agree it looks cool.
Still it lacks that 10% to achieve perfection, only what that is? Another question (that's probably a big part of the 10%).
Is this logo really symbolising 'Kernel Panic' the game(-play)?

Do you have something like "core values" for Kernel Panic? Mission statement? As a logo should be an expression of that..
Modern 'old school' gaming?
Vectors?
Fun gameplay?
Frustrating gameplay?
Aggression?
Action?
Strategy?
Tactics?
Complexity or simplification?
Timedrain?
What are the ingredients that make Kernel Panic 'Kernel Panic'?
But anyway that could quite well be Tim Blokdijk the manager not the artist. The artist in me still feels a deep sense of rejection by the way, I wasn't accepted into art school.. :-(

Took the liberty to manipulate your logo for 10 a 15 minutes, and perhaps it represents kp gameplay more than the original.

But i still think the original is better.
"less is more" is one of those things they often say at art school :-) .

I found my mission statement and core values at http://www.moddb.com/games/kernel-panic/
In short, Kernel Panic is pure, unadulatered RTS fun, with all the boring bits removed, distilled to fast intense action.

Keywords about Kernel Panic:
- Streamlined
- Fast Paced
- No resources. (All constructions are free)
- Short game (like, 5-10 mins)
- Extremely few and archetypal units.
- Short learning curve.
- Gameplay feels a bit like Z, the 1996's Bitmap Brother hit.
- No building up, to teching up, no porcing up. Pure unadultered action!
So let me strip that to..
Pure RTS fun streamlined for fast intense action.
Aright, let's ponder on that for a while. Should "old school vector gaming" be part of the magic sauce that is KP? I do think it's part of KP's soul..

FireStorm_, if you like I can post the blend file? I did not do that yet as it did not feel entirely done.

As in Blender? I appreciate it, but i never really worked with Blender... (yet :-) ).

I'm curious as to how you plan to improve your logo, though.
Also because if any adaptations/manipulations of your logo are appreciated, they'd better be from a finished (and somewhat accepted by concerning community,) benchmark.

I really have to go to bed as I have to work tomorrow (or actually that's today..) so I can't explain why I changed what I changed. But it's still all experimentation. Mainly it's less Tron and more something that's on itself. If that brings it closer to 'Kernel Panic' the game is up for discussion.

Blender 2.49b file: http://timblokdijk.nl/spring/Kernel%20P ... nel3.blend
The file is free to use for any purpose.

I used some parts of this tutorial to get myself going: http://www.blenderguru.com/create-a-glowing-neon-sign/ it's one of the tutorials linked from http://www.blender.org/education-help/tutorials/ best of luck.

Wow awesome, any chance we could get a large version of that with a transparent background?

Or a version in a vector format on a transparent background? Jaz and I are both intensely interested.

I really like Tim's logo, so I tried making a few modifications. How is it?

Vector? With this glow? HAHAHAHAHA!

That said, I'll render and post McDonald's-sized, semitransparent versions of both the logos in a few moments. :P

Well, turns out the ultra-pro-rendered-glow renders differently based on image size, so huge images will look different. :|

While figuring that out, I also came up with this neat little effect:

i like Tim's first one the most (the blue one). it has that kind of old display feel to it, and a bit of oscilloscope too. i would also say it is really close to perfection, but lacks a bit still, also can not really say what.
one possible thing: the stretch is kind of nice, and needed, but it makes no sense.. has no feel to it that relates to something old-techie. maybe, if you change the stretching to adhere to the surface of an old, small CRT screen. you know, the little bulp-out towards the middle, and the round edges and corners of the screen surface. there is a scene in matrix (or multiple ones even), where you see the camera zoom out of a TV screen (you see that the action so far all happened on the screen only, kind of). i think they use a similar effect there (plus scan-lines, which are not needed here).

edit: this might give an idea:

Maybe I have time tomorrow, if not then I will probably have some time this weekend.

@hoijui, I did try to hint at a crt screen with the stretch, I can try to take it further.. but I don't have a clear idea how to create a real crt effect in blender so it would mean a lot of trail and error to get it right.

@MidKnight & PicassoCT, great to see some more experimentation. Keep at it, my time and creativity are limited so any and all work people do is very much appreciated.
