I've started mucking around with GLSL, and I made this widget:

1. Yes, I know it's kind of crude.
2. It's not supposed to be a political statement or anything, I just thought it was funny.

only looking at the screenshot, it looks like changing the colors to black and green (plus white?) would make it kind of a night-goggles widget.
not yet tried in action.

Yeah, there's a lot of variations that could be done; night goggles, greyscaling, sepia toning, etc. etc.

why dont use this shader partially, like a nuke impact or something like that or lvl3-unit fires

Cool, maybe I'll get around to something I was thinking about doing where the rasterized look would be helpful to coolness.

Special "LOS" device thingy like satallite imagery that reveals a section of map in that kind of high contrast setting!

It seems to me that you made a mistake in the brightness formula.
