Artillery radar to detect incoming shells, rockets ...
Hi all,
i got question if it's possible to create this radar class function:
...maybe You all know there are in actual military services so called "artillery" radars
they can be used to spot incoming rockets, mortar&artillery shells, and missiles and even spy drones (also can see vehicles and ships) ...
of course this apply only when not hindered by terrain ...
they can be mounted at anything (starting with static builds going via vehicles and ships to airplanes) ...
they either linked to central warning system or contain powerful computer to fast calculate launch point origin (from trajectory etc) and report to communication central for instant response artillery / missile / air strike (or just set linked arty/mortar to return fire) ...
any idea if would be possible to add this to Spring ?
- detection of projectiles (defined by class)
- visualize theirs path trajectory
- approx origin source
anyway it's just idea and it depends what all can be shown in radar like source area of enemy fire etc (line, dot, circle etc)
or by custom icons (circle, square) in main view etc.

And allow slightly more accurate return fire. It should essentially override the RADAR DETECTS UNIT SOMEWHERE HERE wandering blob with a more accurate SOMETHING SHOT AT YOU FROM HERE blob.Felix the Cat wrote:An artillery radar system would give you the location of the gun that fired an artillery shell coming into its range, through the power of mafs.

Dwarden have u been playing Warzone 2100? cause they have this (called counter-battery radar) and its sweet. Basically u would "link" a set of artillery (whether moblie or static) to the radar and when it detected incoming fire it would instruct the linked arty to fire back. It wasn't perfect accuracy but then again accuracy by volume was pretty standard. They also have Strike Radar (and Counter-battery Strike radar) which allows u to link aircraft to the radar and use them for attack or counter battery work (the strike radar scrambled aircraft to attack when enemies got in range). Something like this could be really interesting but it sounds like something that could be part of a entirely new Radar/jamming system.
Why does the "Player Launch Detected" warning from Def-Con come to mind? That game is great, by the way.
So I think having nukes be three, maybe four times stronger but when you launch them, EVERYONE know's where they are, and where they came from...so their missles come back to your silo. Its a dynamic I really liked in Def-Con, which everyone should play right now, before it actually happens and then we all die a horrible, painfull death.
