why cant we use the scroll wheel on the mouse to switch weapons in FPS mode?

Because it's an RTS engine designed for all weapons to be fired. Go play CSS or something.

what if you have a suicide bomber with a built-in laser?

Well, CSS don't have any vehicles :wink: .

(Need to check what happens in FPS mode in Spring44 when one controls an infantry soldier... IIRC, the submachinegunners have both firearms as well as hand grenades and I hope THOSE are not used simultaneously in a "fire everything at once" kind of mode...)

This is worth further thought and investigation IMHO.

BF2142 even has an RTS mode.

o and lets not forget "Empires" for the source engine.
