Playing Spring games on OpenSUSE 13.1 with Spring Web Lobby

Hello

After years of trying without success or with headaches, to play Spring games in my OpenSUSE, I got it. I must give thank to community (Zero-K forum members help me a lot, like Anarchid or Vermind). This way is not recomended for newbies, cause you can not learn from excellent Zero-K demo-tutorials in a easy way. To learn, I recommend use Zero-K lobby, but for OpenSUSE nowadays is a headache, cause is no "install and play".

So the easiest way to play Spring games in OpenSUSE, in my humble opinion, is with the Web Lobby (http://weblobby.springrts.com/).
Requirements:
  • - OpenSUSE default installation
  • - Firefox latest version (Chrome, Chromium, Konqueror not working)
That's all!!! Finally you will be able to play!!

There is a static version downloadable for x32 and x64 Linux platforms (Windows too):
https://googledrive.com/host/0Bys6k7VMC ... JXR1pRV2M/ fully operative.

You only need to download it, extract archives and launch "WebLobby".

I am sure Web Lobby give Linux and Windows users the perfect way to play without headaches.

Zero-K missions are implemented in Weblobby, but the tab is currently hidden due to a small bug where mission downloads fail in a certain scenario. When this is resolved you'll be able to play missions in Weblobby too. Keep an eye out.

That sounds INCREDIBLE. You make my day :-) and for new Linux spring users too. I look forward to that day!!. Be sure that I'll change my post on that moment about how to use Spring Web Lobby and tutorials. Really you are doing a fantastic job. I'm just buying a new graphics card for that day ; )

I want to offer again my help to translate to Spanish Web Lobby interface.

Thank you a lot for the good news!!

Bad news. Several months ago, something changed in Zero-K. I read that was server related, something like if Spring will not share their servers with Zero-K mod, for some disagreement between them. Result is I can't play with others players since then.

So, sorry, but this thread have no a solution right now to play Zero-K in OpenSUSE.

:(

1 Start WebLobby
2 Click "use hyper-advanced future beta version"
3 Go to Settings
4 Type "lobby.zero-k.info" into "server" category where appropriate
5 Connect

Ideally step 2 will become unnecessary soon with rSWL becoming default.

I followed your instruction but didn't find any "use hyper-advanced ..." but "Try ReactSWL (alpha) (can connect to Zero-K server)" in version 1.5 for Linux64. So I click it and changed the server url to that you said and it's working!!! I can see Zero-K battles now!!!

Will you implement some way to auto-update weblobby? (like Jdownloader, or Telegram for example).

Tutorials not working will be fine too for begginners!!!

Thank you!!!

Bad news.

I can join battles, download maps, games, mods ... but when ready to start, and the button is green, I press it and nothing happens. All players can join but me. Even in battles with only a CAI bot and me, I press "Start game" and below appears "Battle in progress", but spring seems not to work.

However, I can play locally, without join any battle.

What's happening?

Did you submit a bug report?

Well ... really not :(

I was commenting in this thread so I thought it was clear ... :?

The problem is that really we are talking about an "alpha" version, so , where do I report the bug? Weblobby state os development is so oddish that I really don't know how to report my bugs. :(

The github issue tracker is the place.

Your problem seems to be that spring is launched and then terminates immediately, so when making the issue, attach the following:

- Infolog, as ever
- ~/.spring/weblobby/weblobby.log
