Spring Engine Crashes my Linux!

Post by ScarySquirrel »

When the game tries to start, my whole display crashes, I get a black screen, and I have to restart the computer.

There's no infolog.txt, and nothing happens, just a blank screen as soon as the game tries to start!

This is not a problem with springlobby, but only when the game tries to start.

My distribution is Ubuntu 10.10, long

command: uname -a shows the following:

Code: Select all

Linux ********** 2.6.32-21-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 16 08:10:02 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux
I have 10.04, LTS.

I installed the stock spring binaries using the command lines provided on the installation page.

Here is the link to the ubuntu installation instructions:

http://springrts.com/wiki/Ubuntu_instal ... r_releases

Like I said, springlobby works fine, it is only when the game is about to start that I crash.

I installed it straight from the software manager.

I am going to try to fix this myself.

(READY THE CURLY BRACKETS! AYE AYE CAPN'!

and so on and so forth. )

try running in windowed mode (springsettings).
if it does not help, try running in a separate X server (google for howto).

update your gfx drivers!

Try to use the binary drivers (fglrx/nvidia). Opensource-drivers currently don't work well in 3D...
