Making Maps and Mods on Linux

Post by superdevwannabe »

Hello. I would like to try making a map or helping with a mod, but I can not find tools that will cooperate with Linux. Any help?

To make units you can try these:

Wings 3d or Blender for the models, GIMP for textures, Gedit (or your favorite editor) for scripts.

Unfortunately for compiling bos (animation) scripts you'll need scriptor (found in the wiki if you search for it) and to actually get your models ready for use in-game you'll need upspring. These last two you can run under wine, since I am unaware if any native programs exist (or other programs that mimic the functionality of these.)

I've never made a map before, and am unaware of what goes into making it, but I would guess a lot of GIMP.

who?

why? upspring already compiles in linux, with lots of effords, what it needs is a decent buildsystem, or be obsoleted by multiple model support by spring

you can also compile mother's mapconv ( from 74b3 svn tag ) or use springmapedit to make maps.

so the only problem is scriptor

but i think, you are right. But it should be possible without the "lots of effort".

Maybe we someday get a skeletal animation system...

On nvidia cards, upspring works with WINE, you may want to try scriptor with WINE too. NautilusSVN is a good tool for svn mod development (like CA)

I have built a map compiler for linux that is based on mapconv.

If it works with the program you want to use it on, what's not to like?
