New lead

Post by Yeha »

As stated in previous news some of our developers are starting their own project. We wish them good luck with their project, and since they will have less time for spring I will take over as lead developer.

Will this 'new RTS' replace Spring, or be a brother to spring...cousin? Sister maybe?

It might as well be a new game. It's really pretty radically different than Spring internally, and won't have as many limitations. I very much doubt that it will be significantly backwards-compatible.

So, to put it my terms, the new RTS is "Arkham" and Spring is "Insmuth" and we worship Dagon and have lizard people for neighbors.

From what I can see, Yeha (and, for that matter, everybody- the core Spring developers haven't all just disappeared) have been fixing bugs for the next version of Spring. So rest assured- from the SVN logs, Spring is not abandoned or anything- on the contrary, it appears to be rolling along quite nicely, and the next version looks like it will be solid.

So what's the plan after 73b2 is released? Will work on features continue, or will spring be put into maintenance mode?

Yeha, while not active on the forums, has been an active contributer to the project since the beggining. I think he'l do a great job.

The new rts is a separate project from spring. Spring will continue mostly like it has before but maybe a little slower.
JCnossen, Trepan and Tvo is still around, but their main focus is understandable elsewhere.

Hi and good luck as lead developer.

I'd like to know when can we expect a release that fixes the sync bugs.

Thanks.

Good to have a dedicated lead that can actually put full time into the project. While OSRTS is exiting there's really no good reason to let spring die as it develops.
