New version, 0.71b1

Post by jcnossen »

We have released a new spring version. The changes include SJ's new water renderer, fixing of FPS exploits, endgame statistics, and many bugfixes and other small improvements.

A changelog can be found here.
A bug was discovered for 0.70b* that caused two laser projectiles to be created on every shot, causing twice as much laser damage. This is fixed now.

You will need to update to this version in order to connect to the multiplayer lobby.
If you have installed any 0.70b* version already, you only need to download the updating installer. To upgrade any other version or to do a fresh install you will need the regular installer.

Go to the download page

The old XTA version is now fully replaced by what was named XTA Pimped Edition. XTA-PE is now XTA v6

Also, submarine's AAI 6.3 has been added to the release.

[Edit] The installer is missing some bitmaps needed for dynamic water to work, as a temporary fix unzip this file into your spring directory.

It seems the TASClient shortcut is missing from the startmenu... I'll update, but it means some downloads will stop

FU mirror will be up in an hour or so I guess. clan-sy is supposed to have enough bandwidth now (100 mbit) but it doesn't seem to make a big difference.

Lobby changelog can be found here. On most forms (except for main window and battle one) the components have been replaced with some new ones that will hopefully support skinning in the next version, so there may be some new bugs with UI, if you find any please report them.

Some extra notes (a reply to caydr other threads):

VSync works only when you have your driver vsync setting on "application defined". A lot of people force their VSync on or off in the driver, in which case spring has no control over it.

GL_EXT_framebuffer_object is a portable framebuffer extension, used by water rendering and shadows.

Specifying display frequency can't be done in the current way OpenGL is setup, so I removed it.

re: XTA notes
can u just say its all rebalanced and works nicely, instead of confusing me with teh long words. As at one point NOiZE compensated for the changes and then took it back when the engine changes fixed it.
EDIT: =P

There's still no changelog that I can see - the one that's posted only goes up to .70b3

Edit: ahh there it goes. NM
