Spring 104.0 released!

Post by abma »

Today we are proud to present 104.0, Making Spring Great Again Even Greater!

This release has seen a focus on increasing stability and performance, and also contains
fixes for several older lingering issues. Thanks to regular ZK testing, many problems were
identified early in development and addressed, allowing these goals to be reached faster
and with far fewer regressions than before. Of course 104.0 also comes with its share of
exciting new features like LuaMenu, enabling true in-engine lobbies and much, much more.

As always, the changelog contains more details.

Spring 104.0 as it will be set as default version on lobbyserver on Tuesday, 03. October if no blocking bug is found. Download links will be updated then as well.

Most users won't need a download link, as lobbies can download them automatically. for the completeness:

- do not spawn VFS initialization threads if WorkerThreadCount=0
- rebase ThreadPool on a lock-free taskqueue; make IO-bound work unable to block execution of other tasks
- reduce ThreadPool worker-count right after VFS initialization
- asyncify writing screenshots via ThreadPool
- asyncify demo/savegame compression
Would someone be able to ungibberify the changelog and write the important changes for end-users?

Those are all changes to when/if/how Springs does multithreading, some of which may improve performance, but which require no reaction from normal users.

Changes that are "important " i.e. might require a reaction from users, are already marked with a ! sign.

I believe he meant the changelog in general and just listed these as a particularly offending example.

@Jools changelog for dummies:
1) Spring is faster
2) Spring is more stable
3) Spring can run a lobby inside it
4) Spring can download maps and games (works well with lobby)
