Why the hell not? Then engine devs shouldn't be, map makers, widget devs, ... Players probably not aswell..
Each of them can kick people if they don't like his work/gameplay. Of course no moderator should do that.

Does neddie count?
Re: Mod Developers should not be Lobby moderators. Ever.
In my opinion anyone who *wants* to be a moderator should never be allowed to. There're all just wannabe Nazis really
I wish the meek would hurry up and inherit the Earth. The powerful really just piss me off.

Hosting site = you are a good moderator?Otherside wrote:if this is about licho/det etc

hosting site = doesn't matter if he's a moderator or not so he might as well be one

If he hosts it for spring, he shouldn't care if he can moderate people or not.imbaczek wrote:hosting site = doesn't matter if he's a moderator or not so he might as well be one

If a moderator helps a game project they should be fired?

Moderator must be immune to holywars which concern his mod/map/lobby/site/gameplay/etc... Ofc he can take part and argue with others, but he should not use his moderator rights to mute/kick/ban/kill someone calling his mod/map/lobby/site/gameplay/etc a bull shit.
It's democracy here, take it or leave it.

Actually it's not. Current 'rules' on lobby say a mod can do whatever he pleases.[oxnull]Lupus wrote:It's democracy here, take it or leave it.

^^ what this guy said (minus his last sentence). How many of you want smoth or argh as a lobby mod for example? Or even me?[oxnull]Lupus wrote:Moderator must be immune to holywars which concern his mod/map/lobby/site/gameplay/etc... I'm talking about people who actively work on a particular mod, not people who just help out occasionally.
It's worth noting that this topic has little to do with the thread about Det, although the timing is interesting. But I fairly firmly believe that moddevs shouldn't be moderators.
Re: Mod Developers should not be Lobby moderators. Ever.
I think all major, recognised games/mods should each have 1 lobby moderator. Certainly in the long term, how unproffesional will it look if we have no ability to moderate our own games?

That's fine, but I still believe that the moddevs themselves shouldn't be moderators.FLOZi wrote:I think all major, recognised games/mods should each have 1 lobby moderator. Certainly in the long term, how unproffesional will it look if we have no ability to moderate our own games?
But still moderating games is a bit different from moderating the lobby. We all have OP in our channels, we don't need OP over #main. Other than me and fox being stupid and ninja muting each other, I've never actually used the mute or kick command that I can remember. Evidenced by the fact that I have to ask chanserv for help cause I don't know what the commands are...
Re: Mod Developers should not be Lobby moderators. Ever.
Content devs and Engine devs shouldnt be moderators, its a conflict of interests, I also disagree with licho being moderator because he hosts this that or those. He should be a moderator based on his merits as a moderator, not because he hosts it. Any maintenance he needs to do doesn't require him having the ability to kick or ban people.
Note that this is not an indication of my opinion on lichos ability to moderate.

Wait what? Go buy your own server. This is not a server for any particular game, it's a engine server.FLOZi wrote:I think all major, recognised games/mods should each have 1 lobby moderator. Certainly in the long term, how unproffesional will it look if we have no ability to moderate our own games?

I imagine Argh is moderator on his PURE server.Regret wrote:Wait what? Go buy your own server. The question is; is it good for Spring for all mods to branch off into their own servers for that purpose?
No. No it is not.
Re: Mod Developers should not be Lobby moderators. Ever.
Anyone can moderate a game or channel they host. But theres no reason game devs should be lobby moderators more than anyone else.
I have no problem with game devs doubling as lobby mods, but mods shouldnt act on cases which they are a part of, but instead wait for an impartial mod to resolve it.
