I wanted to do a Version of the ever so popular the Lava Rises and tryied to upload a heightmap, with a selected theme to the Map-Converter/Renderer on the Server when it 404ed all of the sudden. Anyone any advice?
I have no intention of re-setting up the whole tool chain of olden times, and this map needs no feature and no metal, just the standard treatment.
So do it legacy is no valid advice.

I'm lost, what web front end? where?
If you attach your heightmap & texmap, I'm happy to compile it for you, using my reliable old toolchain that doesn't care whether or not it gets given metalmaps and feature defs etc etc...

Pymapconv is also very kind, only requires texture and height.

Your heightmap has the wrong dimensions - it is missing the "+1" on both its X and Y dimensions. I can't easily resize it without losing quality (I have no image editors installed), so please upload a heightmap with the correct dimensions.

It turns out your texmap was also the wrong dimensions - you had 8197x3074 and it should have been 8192x3072, but I can resize that one without trouble. (Heightmap is N*64+1, texmap is N*512, where N is X or Y, in your case X=16 and Y=6.)
The map now compiles and at first glance looks as you'd want it too, but it suffers from "terracing" - see attached. I remember this problem from olden times, and I think its caused by your png heightmap having insufficient bit depth to express what Spring views as a smooth change in height. I personally avoid this issue by using .raw heightmaps, but I do know that some people managed to fix their pngs.
Files, get it while its hot: http://www100.zippyshare.com/v/2S0xPYXh/file.html

Just a side note, Pymapconv supports 16-bit PNGs, so you no longer have to use weird RAW-s. The best way to convert your 8 bit greyscale to 16bit is with photoshop's 'Smart Blur' filter, using a low threshold (~5) and a small radius (~5).
