modifying a map
Steel fields is a 32x32 map. What do I need to be able to trim that down to say 28x28? Can I just open up the sd7 file and change the size?
Re: modifying a map
nope, maps don't work that way.
you would have to export the texture, scale it and the height field down then rebuild it.

I tried using SME. For some reason it just wont load the map. I have 6 gigs of ram so I dont know what the problem is.
for those of you who use sme, how long does it take to load a map?

Re: modifying a map
smf is just information, smt is texture.
Re: modifying a map
1) unpack the map
2) springmapedit File -> Import Spring Sm2 map
3) file -> save all maps
4) there will be several bitmaps, some quite large
5) use irfanview/photoshop/whatever to resize those bitmaps
6) use file->load to them again
7) export -> spring sm2 map
pack the map
see http://springrts.com/wiki/Map_development on how to pack the map, what bitmap sizes for what mapsizes and all that.
I think only frostregen can really help with sme as he made it:

depends on the size, the console window shows progress with #####for those of you who use sme, how long does it take to load a map?
Does it load a smaller map? Also copy the errors from the console. For some reason it just wont load the map. I have 6 gigs of ram so I dont know what the problem is.
