True, if you move the camera you see its faked, breaking the ilusion... but the only working alternativ is to let the orbitals ring vannish in foggy atmosphere, clouds hiding its beginning and end, preferable over ocean (difficult to guess the distance over water).

I hate the let the ring vannish beneath the surface, i never understood how people could see that as realistic even in a shooter, were you dont get the camera moved that mutch in relation to the skybox. Another problem is that atmospheresky.. usually the more air the light wents thru the more lighter colour the blue. Thats why directly above you a summersky looks darkblue, and lightblue-whitish on the horizon. Now on a Orbital, the "Lookintospace" comes as a O-shape above you, and on both sides (if you dont hide it behind cheap oh,so specialenergyshields)

I given this some thought zwsg, and found the foggy skxybox the best Solution, sorry to not beeing able to lua moar into it.

No.

You can draw the rest of the ring with Lua, you can do the rest of the ring with a feature model, ...

Awesome concept map. A bit concerned over the buildings- it'd be better to use World Builder or Features, imo, they just won't look right as they are, imo, due to resolution and stretching. As for water, that's a real puzzler, I agree. You can use Typemaps to keep movement to 0 in the area, but it's kinda out've the current scope of the engine.

Drawing the remainder of the Halo with Lua should be possible. It'll clip when it hits the upper limits, but there are several ways to make that go away. Building it into the skybox is probably not ideal.

Couldnt you bundle a gadget that makes the units slant according to where on the curve they are so you end up with gravity always perpendicular to the curve and not the flat map base? It would work upto a point after which you'd need to meddle with min max slope tolerances on the fly

... I think trying any attempt to make the map "fake" being flat everywhere is doomed to fail. There will be tons of warts, and it will just confuse the players. Better to enjoy it as it is.

The map is shaped like a hammock, and should play as such, regardless of what it is meant to represent.

well finnished typemap and will bundle in a feature+ texture and empytskybox into the map, so if somebody wants to do it, he can do it..

iamwatchinstargateuniverse rightnow and itsgreatdrama and could do completely without thesciencefiction. just drop a crew into a oldsub and voila, could even just be bioshock, the scenario is - replacable, otherwise it is great, just lacks the usual main enemy, which escalated stargate durin the series always into a warzone..

As great as your maps are, theyre more just art, because they are so visually confusing and chaotic, its hard to figure out what the terrain is like, and where we can, its too distracting
