new AI subsystem maintainer

Post by Tobi »

zenzike is now our new 'Spring engine AI subsystem maintainer'. Welcome him on board :-)

In the future I like to assign more specific areas to certain people, so they can keep oversight over that particular aspect/subsystem of the engine.

So if you are developer and want your area of expertise within spring to be acknowledged too, then feel free to claim maintainership here ;-)

Congratulations zenzike.

I hope you will bring us to a new era of AI developing.

I have some suggest for more "subsystems" or isn't it better to call teams?
1. Promoter or public Relations adviser, take a look how kde does it. They have press contact people which the press can contact.
2. Packet/installer team/subsystems
3. Wiki team/subsystems
4. Bug hunting team/subsystems

By the way updating the page Team members wouldn't be bad.

I hope Tobi you will take a new route of promoting and developing spring.

Yes that would be a good idea too, but currently I am not personally going to go after people to start those. But all initiative is welcome of course.

Also welcome jK on board of the dev team btw, I gave him commit access too.

4. Bug hunting team/subsystems
Lol that would be a primer, does anyone here want to devote his time to bugfixing only? ;)

bug hunting not fixing  , this could be done by "normal" players.

You could give the work away. A project manager should share the work between his workers.
Give some managing work to a few people and let they do your work.
There are people outside who would be happy to do this work.

Thanks for the welcome.

The new AI system will take some time to roll in, and I'll do it whilst maintaining the old system too. Hopefully, you won't feel the transition. Is there an indication of when you wan the next stable release to be ready?

New maintainer :-)

I'll leave it to him whether he wants to make entirely new AI system. (Besides the new interface)

Just for the sake of clarity, maintainer / overseer of a subsystem does
not mean "exclusive owner of all rights to modify said system" right? :-)

Nope, just as it has always been before; if you have a rather large structural change just discuss it for a sec but just go ahead with bugfixes / smaller features etc.

Any changes to the AI system will be discussed on the forums before they are done -- we're working together on this one :)

I'll make sure that any changes to the system don't affect any of the AIs that are in the repository. The current work that's been done on this works fine with RAI with very minimal changes.

You won't see me doing very much for the next month or so since I'll be away on holiday, but when I get back I'll start making changes in earnest.
