PING command in the lobby is not a ICMP packet, it's part of the lobby protocol (a regular lobby command, to which server simply responds with a PONG string), so there is always some additional lag due to server taking time to process your request etc.

But you shouldn't be getting such high ping times of course. I will look into it, although I'm not sure where the problem is - my ping takes 50 - 100 ms in avarage, with peaks at 300 ms or so, never times out.

I have this same problem with Vista.

I'm pretty sure its something to do with Vistas new networking, because I get similar kinds of disconnects from IM clients whenever my network is even under the tiniest load

I do not get random disconnects anymore under Vista than I did under XP, if anything I've only had 1 disconnect in the last month using Vista whereas XP gave me many more.

When the server disconnects a user for not sending traffic, is this time since last PONG or time since last message of any kind?

Hey, I use XP. I just don't trust Vista yet, especially so soon after release, what with Micro$oft products being notorious for causing all sorts of yummy yummy problems immediately after release. No, I'll wait for a year or two before upgrading, thank you very much, when it's actually worth to be called upgrading. :-)

Vista is technically at least 6-8 months old, despite it only being on shop shelves for 2-3 weeks, and so far the only flaw thats been fixed is with Microsoft Bitdefender (antispyware) not vista buy it was tagged a vista bug because defenders prebundled with vista.
