Enabling Shadows Problem
Moderator: Moderators
Sounds like another driver is the issue, i just rebuilt my machine last week on a new drive not on my boards SATA controller due to Half Life 2 and other Source based games (CS:S HL:D) would crash all the time. turned out to be the driver i was using for my SATA controller was the issue. A full rebuild of windows may be in order (sad but true). i hope you have multiple drives u can back up to mate.

My specs:
AMD Athlon XP 2200+ running at 1.8 GHz, 256mb of memory, nVidia Geforce FX 5700, I assume it has 64mb of internal memory, it runs Doom 3 in acceptable levels on lowest details, it runs Halo pretty well and supports all the advanced texture settings.
The shadows are buggy, the entire map is covered by a giant shadow while there is a light area persistant on the bottom of the screen in OTA view mode.

Yah I got a Geforce FX 5200 ultra, shadows seem to lag it a bit pushing the framerate down to 20 something or lower if I have lots of units. However I do find that the framerates shoots above 30 if I put the heightmap overlay on or any of the other overlays, even when shadows arent turned on.
If I turn shadows off It goes to 30fps but with the heightmap overlay it shoots upto 60.
Also I would highly recommend against using windows XP for driver updates, especially where graphics cards are concerned, I suggest you pay a visit to nvidia.com immediatly.

Just to say that it didn't work with catalyst 5.5 until now . I just have installed the control center (beurk) and now, they work.
But one problem remain : when I set the resolution to 1680*1050 and set the shadow map size to 2048, it crach with a pBuffer error.
If I downgrade the resolution to 1024*768 or the shadow map to 1024, it work good.

Hey it worked Sean thanks! it can even run them at 2048x2048 bliss! wooohooo.
However I need to atleast turn off reflections and dynamic clouds to get an acceptable FPS though lol, but i'm not complaing, everything looks SWEET, I didn''t realise shadows draw ON the units as well, that's the coolest ever!
