map render issue (not quite solved)
My maps are white. Features and Units are have the correct texture.

Edit: I would like to note this happens in both BA and CT. This is an older laptop with a fresh install of vista sp2. All windows updates have been applied. As always any help is appreciated.

Re: map render issue
I don't recall where to put/alter that value. Care to enlighten me?

Re: map render issue
you can set that in the spring config or just enter "/advmapshading 0" in game, I think.
Re: map render issue (solved)
Try to update your GFX drivers, they seem to be very old and this specific version is even bugged.
Also nvidia got unified drivers for laptops & desktops so there should be no problem to update them.

Re: map render issue
I would love to update them. When I go to nvidia's site they tell me to use the sony drivers. From what I can gather I am running the most up to date from Sony. It appears that I'm not out of the woods yet as far as being able to play. Knorke's suggestion fixed the white problem but now it is crashing a few minutes into the game.

Incorrect nvidia says you to use this:oksnoop2 wrote:I would love to update them. When I go to nvidia's site they tell me to use the sony drivers.

it's the result when you enter your system specs into this form:

!
Re: map render issue (not quite solved)
While I do appreciate your digging around, it would seem the driver suggested is incorrect. I have the 8400M GT. When I attempt to install the driver provided I get an error:
"NVIDIA Installer cannot continue
This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware."

Go to
"Find all drivers"
geforce
Geforce 8m series
8400m GT
windows vista 32bit
english
start search.
...
http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/57621 << this is the driver for your card.\
You should nuke the previous drivers before trying to install these.

Re: map render issue (not quite solved)
k I learned: never buy a Sony or Fujitsu notebook
Seems they do something crappy with their GPUs, so they can't be supported with the unchanged nvidia drivers. Quote of the "Supported products" page:

I wonder what happens when you install Linux on such a notebook? The following Sony VAIO notebooks are included in the Geforce notebook program: Sony VAIO F Series with NVIDIA GeForce 310M, GeForce GT 330M, GeForce GT 425M, GeForce GT 520M or GeForce GT 540M. Other Sony VAIO notebooks are not included (please contact Sony for driver support).
Re: map render issue (not quite solved)
You can install nouveau drivers, and it kind of works without 3d acceleration. Thankfully it was not my laptop - I already knew the lesson when I bought my laptop.jK wrote: I wonder what happens when you install Linux on such a notebook?

Wow... No shit? That's really messed up. Oddly enough I really like the notebooks that compaq puts out. After you get them home and format them, they are great little laptops.
I think my next is going to be a chromebook though and dual boot linux. God those things are awesome.

@oksnoop2
please try
http://springrts.com/dl/buildbot/defaul ... ortable.7z
Maybe Sony just don't want to pay NVidia 1$ for each GPU for longterm driver support.

A fast google search showed that `some` can use proprietary drivers o_Omalric wrote:You can install nouveau drivers, and it kind of works without 3d acceleration.
