No game speed control? (Single Player)

Post by Paul-Devon-UK »

When in game I used to use + or - to change the game speed. Since an update I am no longer able to do so.

I have just downloaded the latest versions and reinstalled (portable) to try to fix this without luck. Using Spring Lobby and the latest XTA game.

My system is Win7 (64), Intel I7 quad, 8Gb RAM, AMD Radeon HD 6700 Series.

My system used to let me run at 10+ speed during the early phase of the game, now I am stuck with snail speed. Yes, I did change the 'maximum game speed' in options.

Am I the only one experiencing this? Can anyone help?

Cheers, Paul.

That simple?

Tested and verified.

Why on earth did that happen? No notification just a 'you should know that'.

Thanks for helping.

Np - notifications of changes are in the changelogs, which are linked to from posts annoucing new engine and mod versions.

The reason for change was that too many people hit -/+ and changed speed accidentally. Also it frees up -/+ for a more natural use as volume control.

Although the reasons are sound, the failure to communicate effectively was not, but it is a currently inavoidable consequence of the update format and release process.

An upgrade in the engine has no relevance to players and it shouldn't. Most game devs were aware of the change. They can manage the flow of information to their playerbase. Most also have autohosts that are configured to use any engine version on the server and they can control when to configure the hosts to use the latest version.

I didnt know people speed up the game during early phase.
More common use is probally to change speed while watching replay?
For that every game should have clickable buttons like zero-K.

well, maybe a bit nicer  but this "hold down key until wanted speed is reached" is a bit silly in the first place.

As far as I know, they don't. I agree it would be nice to have a little gui for changing speed which only appeared when watching a replay. I don't suppose you know if anyone already wrote a widget for it?

My reason for speeding up the early phase of the game is because it is pretty much 100% building. I prefer large maps where it takes the AI some time to start attacking. Once interaction starts I reduce the speed.

My rig can cope with a full on battle at 100% but I can not cope with the required unit management at that speed!

I very much doubt that Multi Player games would/should adjust the game speed.

Edit - battle at 100% = +10 speed.

Give ZK a try. It's an action-packed game right from the start. You instantly deploy your initial factory (facplop) and static buildings and defense are inexpensive and quick to build.

He said he prefers large maps where the AI takes some time before it attacks him, not instant action!

I assumed by his use of speedup that he wants instant base-building action. :P
