FPS drop when I zoom in

Problem
My FPS drop from above 100 to around 5 when I zoom in.
- This happens right from the beginning. No matter how many units are ingame.
- My fps dont drop slowly as I zoom in. They drop rapidly once I hit a certain zoom-level. As if there was some threshold.
- Water seems to help against this. When I move the camera over water my FPS are ok. No matter how far I zoom in. The water-mode makes no difference.
- In debug mode I see that "Draw world" goes up to 100% when I zoom in

What I tried so far
- Two mods: BA and Zero-K
- Different maps
- spring.exe and multithreaded.exe(usually use this one)

Spring settings
I allways had pretty low graphics and I havent changed the settings
- Reflective water
- Shadows off
- LuaShaders off

My system
CPU: Intel T2500: 2GHz Dualcore
RAM: 2 GB

Other
I used to play Spring for a long time. Then I took a break, about half a year until now. Spring worked fine before. Now I have this problem. My ATI drivers are NOT up to date because the old ones allways worked with spring and the new ones cause me problems with other programs.


Another not so urgent problem
All my explosions and other fire-effects are blue. In BA and Zero-K.

u got ATI and spring doesnt like ATI much, update drivers.

I dont think you read my post. I dont want to update my drivers because
- Spring worked perfectly fine with the ones I used the past years
- If I do update I get problems with other programs which I use alot

It will be difficult to help you if you don't want to replace your defective driver. All you can do is play with game settings or hope that the problem goes away in the next release.

I installed the "modded" new drivers. Doesnt help.
I reinstalled Spring. Doesnt help.

However I found out that this problem only occurs on certain maps.

Maps that have this problem
- Small supreme battlefield V2
- Emain Macha

Maps that work fine
- Chicken_Farm_V2
- Comet Catcher Redux
- DeltaSiegeDry
- Grts_Gunmetal_Harbor_009
- MoonQ10X
- Terra
- TheColdPlace

These are just the maps I tried so far. So I guess it isnt that bad, as long as I avoid these maps.

Im trying to find out what kinds of maps dont work.
Its not the size and its not the water because I have both kinds of maps that work and those that dont.

Any other ideas?

So a problem with engine trees then? Try turning tree distance to 0, or whatever that setting is.

there was one particular map where me and a few other players had this problem with zooming out, if we zoomed out to a particular distance my fps would go down to about 5

I use single threaded and usually get about 60 at that zoom level on other maps.

Someone said it was something to do with the trees

Hey we are actually on to something here :)
It really is the trees. When I set the visible tree distance to 600(lowest possible setting) the fps-drop disappears.
With this setting the 3D-trees disappear and I only see the 2D-ones.

This is ok for although I wonder why this happened. I could play with 3D-trees back in the past.

Also any idea why all my sprites are blue? I just saw a blue forest fire :(

There was something about ATI using not RGB but BGR due to a bug.

Try fiddling with the setting "AtiSwapRBFix"

I hate to say this but I dont know how to use atiswaprbfix
I tried /atiswaprbfix and .atiswaprbfix ingame but that does nothing. I also looked for a spring config file but I couldnt find it.

I also found another bug. My fps also go down once I press my mousewheel. Pressing the mousewheel brings you into that mode where you can pan around the map with the mouse. Once I press it my fps are ruined for the rest of the game. This problem is also new :| I notice that there is a new cursor when I press the mousewheel so I guess it has been changed in the last months. Or maybe is it a widget?

After you start the game by clicking spring.exe, there is an "Edit Settings" menu. Then AtiSwapRBFix=1. I have no clue whether it will help you though. The middle click issue I have read about before, but I don't remember what the workaround was. You should be able to find it in this forum.

Sry if im stupid but I looked and there is no such option. Only a "Ati hack" which was allready enabled. I tried disabling it but that did nothing.

Here is a little summary of my problems because I found out more since my first post.

My FPS drop down to 5 when
- The 3D trees are visible
--- This can be dealt with by setting the Tree view-distance to 600(lowest possible). When I do this I never get to see the 3D ones, only the cheap looking 2D ones, no matter how far I zoom in

- After I middleclicked once and any trees are visible
--- In this case it does not matter whether they are 3D or 2D ones.


also
- All my fire and explosion sprites are blue. I looked for atiswaprbfix in the settings but there is nothing like that.
