Crackling/Pausing ingame sounds
Seems to only happen for me when using vista/seven.
Does your sound work okay ? ie smooth, what gfx card do you guys girls have I just got a 5870..
I hope there is a fix for this if there is it needs to get put into the general FAQ because it is super annoying after a while.

Re: Crackling/Pausing ingame sounds
I had the same bug too, out of nowhere. Setting cpu affinity to 1 core caused it, but it has somehow resolved itself since.

Re: Crackling/Pausing ingame sounds
okay correction :D
nothing to do with services tho having less running generally leads to a better performing PC.
The Fix.....
SystemSoundsService Task must be runnning in Task Scheduler otherwise you get the dreaded crackle.
If it still doesnt work try upgrading sound drivers as aegis has said, also check openAL and DirectX drivers are installed and upto date.

Re: Crackling/Pausing ingame sounds
I have a ATI video card and it can transmit sound via its HDMI connection.
Installing the latest driver makes the dreaded crackle go away

S3 sleep standby mode also can cause the game to crackle
