Unit textures doesnt display with latest ATI driver

Post by losbellos »

Hej guys, after installing the latest ati driver, I cannot start the springsettings.exe it hangs when I start it.
Aslo unit textures are not displayed at all, only some metallic shaders.

I disabled catalyst ai and manually dispabled some rendering funtions like lua shaders and multithreaded unit rendering. This helped with the nota or the ca mod, the other mods doent work.

However The map texture diplays fine..

Anybody have a clue? Thx

What? That didn't make any sense... Anyhoo, try the catalyst 10.4 drivers. ATI has horrific opengl support, so it can be a challenge to figure out which drivers work and which ones fail.

Have a look at the ATi FAQ. Cat 10.7a with OGL fix are linked here. Win only.

Well, I have installed spring on windows 7 but it is always crashing with some driver error... I have tried with 4 versions of catalyst but no luck. Fourtunately the textures are ok. Might be a minor problem.

Personally i'm using Catalyst 10.3 under W7 32bit & going to upgrade to 10.8 when they are deployed. I mean with no video driver crashes.

always attach whole infolog, and do it as file attachment, not as text in the post.

Terrible restrictions we have, I now try to use it on windows7 with 10.3. 10.4 didnt work, Now the updated spring doesnt start. I try to turn off the shorewaves.

Maybe dev tream should revisit the engine code, I think its more likely even with ati driver change that there should be something changed as well, since every other games are running ok with it. Texture assignment uvw is such a common thing.

Not to mention if spring crashes with different drivers then it is really not the case dont you think so? Now i try to put back the latest drivers and just play with the metallic, its better than nothing.

edit: what is that you actually turn off?
I can only found bumpshorewaves in the sping edit settings menu.

Didint work, I think I am going to install an other windows xp 64 bit with 10.6 catalyst and then I will be just fine. Since I work with opencl I needed to switch to 10.7 since sdk 2.2 - opencl 1.1

Windows7 didnt work. I would love to have those perepackaged live linux cds wich can work right away. map mod folders could be on the hdd.

95% of other games on windows use DirectX, which is also the reason why they are not released for Linux btw (-> no, we will not use DirectX), while spring uses OpenGL.
-> "all the other games .. BLA" illegal argument

Fine, just for the funny reference I just installed an other copy of windows xp x64 and with olders drivers, wich is working fine. But it is extremly funny to have two windows juts because of spring.

I am not sure, but I suspect that it would be like 10-15 lines of code change unless ati did something really wierd.

Well, I am not sure I just tried cod wich is opengl and there is no problem with textures.

Well, ATi messed up with OGL when they added OGL4.0 support to their driver pack. Which happened in Cat 10.5. Since then OGL was broken, till Cat10.7 Beta OpenGL ES 2.0 release which magically fixed all of this.
Link here.

AFAIK OGL bugs were present in Spring, Il-2 series and somewhere in Q3A.

I dont know... I am just sitting here surprised and looking at my freshly installed spring and it say it crashed on windows xp x64 with ati 10.4 driver.
I dont know... now for the last time I try to install the beta driver if it doesnt work, I am not gonna play it for long time. Which is very sad, just received my golden medal! :-)

btw I was playing spring just fine with 10.6 so I dont think so..

In this case: a) fix is not compatible with WinXP x64, b) your system is already messed with many Cat versions, c) you have different GFX card than HD4xxx series :o

Okay, you got your score. Somehow probably it was case - b. Never really thought that I have to install/uninstall that way that I have to restart twice... Sorry for the bad words.

there are GFX driver removal tools too, which might eliminate the need for this.
