Computer shut down (not restart) mid game - Fatal Error

Post by Taelo »

Hello,

Basically my laptop will shut down anywhere between 5 minutes and 2 hours into a game, it's pretty unpredictable. It doesn't seem to be based around how hard the computer is working, though it has crashed during large encounters...

The game will stutter very slightly a few seconds before my computer shuts down totally and I have to start it up again. It's strange because I've been playing Spring (BA) for a week or two now and this has only started happening over the last two days. I've not changed any software or hardware during that time. I thought it may be a habitual video crash but I've tried reducing the resolution as recommended in the sticky but to no avail. System specs are as follows:

Operating System: Windows VistaÔäó Home Premium (6.0, Build 6000) (6000.vista_rtm.061101-2205)

Chip type: GeForce Go 7300
DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC
Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_01D7&SUBSYS_01071025&REV_A1
Display Memory: 892 MB
Dedicated Memory: 125 MB
Shared Memory: 767 MB
Current Mode: 1440 x 900 (32 bit) (60Hz)

DDI Version: 9Ex
Driver Attributes: Final Retail
Driver Date/Size: 1/30/2009 10:12:00, 5976064 bytes

Thanks in advance! (also, I know my system isn't great, but my friend who I play against is on a laptop which is a little worse than mine but no crashes for him!).

All I can say is that Spring does NOT shut down your computer.

It is either a graphics driver bug, or a overheating or malfunction of your computer hardware (most likely GPU or CPU).

Thank you for your replies, since I've now found out that Spring is not the only game causing this problem, it would seem you're right.

Thanks again!

my bet is on overheating. pick your machine apart and remove dust from fans and radiators.

if you don't want to do that, try blowing some compressed air through the vents.

Suck the vents with a vacuum cleaner. The fans will spin like crazy, but no worries.
