0.79 Desync in lobby.

Post by Stealth870 »

I had my friend update to 0.79 only to have to our dismay end up having issues with syncing from the start in the lobby.

She updated spring via the 0.79.0.2 installer, and has patched the exe as well (just as I have), however when I host a game, she does not sync in the room.

I have also made her uninstall spring completely (minus mods and maps) run the installer again, patch exe, and download ota base contents. We have everything the same, we have never had issues before 0.79 with mods, maps, or Spring. What else could it be??

Dotz has the same issue. Since update, everyday he joins my battleroom, and he always is desynced. I told him also to desinstall, delete, reinstall, and yet he's still desynced.

Did you suggest searching mods and maps for files that belong in base like I said?

sigh... please skip the typical stuff and assume that we are dealing with a clean, installed spring. AKA, I have the same situation as the poster of this topic.

I was there when zwzsg was talking to you in #kp, and you said you were copying maps at the time. No need to sigh, I haven't gotten any updates since. Note that Stealth said 'minus maps'.

Dotz, thing is a "clean" install of Spring won't have those base files. In my case, I have checked and both of us do have the otacontent, tacontent_v2, and tatextures_v062, along with the other 3 standard files.

Just for kicks, we also both downloaded the recent BA 6.93 (that neither of us had) and made her get a new map that I had gotten, just to rule out a mod/map desync too. Still nothing.

Is there a debug window/log somewhere that the lobby can give me for the exact reason of why there is a desync?

You can upload both of your archivecachev7.lua files to pastebin. Stealth, you see all the non-TA base files, like springcontent? Did you look for any files by that name in mods\ and maps\? Possibly copied there by the archive mover.

Well, I made a small .bat file to list the stuff in our Spring, though I forgot to check maps folder...

base\cursors.sdz
base\maphelper.sdz
base\otacontent.sdz
base\springcontent.sdz
base\tacontent_v2.sdz
base\tatextures_v062.sdz

Both of us have them in the correct spots. I can confirm neither have extra copies in our mods folder, and I can be about 99% sure it wouldn't be in maps either. Seeing as how we played perfectly in 0.78, I had her move out the maps folder during the clean wipe, and put it back in. She extracted directly the newly downloaded ota stuff into base so there should be no reason an extra copy of any of those 6 files could of snuck there way into the maps folder.

Not an extra copy of the new ones, but one from an older spring version moved there via double-click.

also the same problem... i'm unable to sync in the lobby after updating... i log in to the server, click a battle... springlobby says "joining battles is disabled due to the incompatible spring version you're using"... then another popup beneath says "Couldn't get your spring versions from any unitsync library. Online play is disabled."

where my problem might differ... when i start a single player game, i get a black screen and my windows loading icon; eventually i close it with the task manager after nothing happens for a while.

i've uninstalled / reinstalled a few times, same results... downloaded the latest installer... i'm assuming that's the "patched exe" mentioned above, i'm working with vista 32. unitsync.dll is where it should be i assume, in the main spring directory... ota content etc. is all present.

open up your springsettings.cfg (located in local settings/app data), find LogSubsystems, set it to

Code: Select all

LogSubsystems=ArchiveScanner
, post infologs of two people who can't get lobby sync with each other. (start single player or spring.exe directly, no need for multiplayer game.)

Here are the infologs...

[EDIT] Oh snap, thanks Lurker you were right. Looks like there was a Spring 1944 folder in mods with springcontent and bitmaps in there! Moved that sucker out and we are good to go. Thanks man.

just like I suspected: base files do not match. see:

kelly:

Code: Select all

[ 0] ArchiveScanner: C:\Archivos de programa\Spring\mods\Spring 1944\base\springcontent.sdz checksum: 638152335/638152335
[ 0] ArchiveScanner: C:\Archivos de programa\Spring\mods\Spring 1944\base\spring\bitmaps.sdz checksum: -1885836461/2409130835
stealth:

Code: Select all

[ 0] ArchiveScanner: C:\Program Files\Spring\base\springcontent.sdz checksum: -1306743585/2988223711
[ 0] ArchiveScanner: C:\Program Files\Spring\base\spring\bitmaps.sdz checksum: -962226362/3332740934
mine:

Code: Select all

[ 0] ArchiveScanner: E:\gry\Spring-svn\base\springcontent.sdz checksum: -1306743585/2988223711
[ 0] ArchiveScanner: E:\gry\Spring-svn\base\spring\bitmaps.sdz checksum: -962226362/3332740934
therefore i think kelly's base files are either wrong, or there's a much deeper issue here.

Yup, thanks to you as well imbaczek for that tip. But I find it odd, why does Spring even bother reading base files outside of the base folder? And why did it suddenly start reading it from the other folder if in 0.78 the folder was practically the same?

What makes you think it didn't? I'm sure those were 78 base files. I thought I made it clear that it's not an issue of extra copies but non-matching copies.

You can put base, maps, and mods in any of the three folders.
