spring downloader redownloads already downloaded maps

My spring downloader has been behavin very strange lately. I have normally turned on the auto download maps for mods function by default, which means it is downloading maps practially all the time. However, when I started wondering why my HDD got pretty much stuffed, I found out the spring/maps/ folder had gotten about 88 Gb large. Looking in there I saw the names of the known maps, but as well map names like:
map_name_here(1)
map_name_here(2)
map_name_here(3)
map_name_here(4)
in a few occasions even going over 100. Now I have needed a very long time deleting the additional maps, but I wondered whether this ocuild be an bug in the downloader or not.
