Stuck at "Connecting"...

Post by Jaaaaack »

So, recently upgraded my laptop from integrated graphics to dedicated ATI x1400. Spring now hangs at the "Connecting to server" black screen. Even when I run it locally (Test spring) it refuses to work. I've completely uninstalled/deleted my mods and re-downloaded. Checked my graphics card for newest drivers and everything is fine. So yeah, what gives?

Edit: Exact specs of computer:

Core Duo 1.73ghz
320GB harddrive
ATI x1400
1GB ram
Vista home premium

Edit2: Infolog after closing game with taskmanager

using configuration source "Software\SJ\Spring"
OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition, 32-bit (build 6000)

Happens with all mods. Perhaps it's a hyper-memory issue?

Edit: Turned off hyper-memory and still has problems.
Can I find old versions of the spring.exe somewhere?

Edit: Always seems to occur when the computer starts loading the map.

I'd suggest playing around with the spring-settings a bit. turning down water to basic, disabling lua and ground decals, etc.

How well does Spring run on Linux? I'm thinking of installing a small ubuntu partition on my harddrive to see if Spring will run inside it. Any thoughts?

Yup.

As far as linux, I just finished installing ubuntu (I'm actually posting from it right now) and things seem to be working, currently downloading spring to see how it works. Will report back.

Edit: Got it installed and configured in ubuntu and it seems to work... well perfectly actually. Haven't actually played against another person yet so Im' not sure about frame rates but we'll see soon enough.

Edit2: Well it runs flawlessly on ubuntu under my setup, there are a few strange glitches but nothing major. Still won't work under vista though, but at this point I've ceased to care I guess. Guess Ill be dual booting and just choosing my OS according to what I plan to do.
