Screenshots usually just show an engine... you can get the exact same graphics using SM3, only slower.
I'm still waiting on a OpenGL geometry shader extension :)

Ok, but the dx9 fallback will not have all the dx10 functionality actually implemented (or in software which sucks too), so you still end up with different capabilities for different hardware. Which is the same situation as previous DirectX API's. So I can't really say this situation is better than it was, maybe even worse because you don't really know what is supported and whatnot (less clear specification for fallback hardware).actually zaphod i've been using the dx10 beta since february and geuss what it runs faster than dx9 it has a fallback mode for dx9 compatable cards
