128GB SSD isn't enough - you need a lot more space for 'storage'. Is that a hybrid (has a HDD) or just an SSD? 128GB is enough for apps ofc
I'd rather get one stick of 8GB now.
ATI is not the best gfx card for Spring/linux. Have you considered Nvidia?

PS: Do you really need to pay 388 USD for a motherboard? (Can't say I know the prices, but seems a bit steep)

This.

On SSDs - I have laptops with a small (~120Gb) SSD and a large (~750Gb) normal hard disk. I use the SSD for OS & programs and put data on the other one. I think its a common thing to do & it this works very nicely.

Also why the water cooling? Nothing there strikes me as a temperature problem.

I think separating OS from storage it's a very common thing to do, and spring should do more to support this. Spring data with all stuff like maps and replays can take up to 10 Gb, you probably don't want to include this on the SSD.

128 Gb is enough for the OS, but imo you can't have much smaller than that. Remember that the disk drives need to have a bit of free space to work best.

I have an asrock motherboard, but I think I'll be staying away from the brand in the future, It's not the most reliable thing in the world. IMO Gigabyte or Asus are better.

is the graphic-card thing still such a big difference between ati and nvidea? I use a ati mobile chip and it seems ok with Spring.

Just have to throw in this: it's now almost 10 years since ATI ceased to exist. We should really say AMD.

Some things exist on, some parasitic companys cultures, worm there way through the victim, utterly disorientating it, forcing it to write horrible drivers that only work on a per game base, soon AMD will die, somebody else will eat the free meal, and the cycle of horror continues.

ATI cordicepes.. the horror

Bad for various reasons.

Why such an expensive motherboard? There is no point. Get one <$150. Seriously.

CPU - seems like your logic in choosing this cpu is finding the one with the most GHz for the lowest price. The FX9590 is not a good idea for various reasons - this thing takes a ridiculous amount of power, produces an incredible amount of heat (and noise) and suffers from overheating issues on all but the most expensive cooling set ups, and other problems. It has quite an old architecture that is just 'brute forced' to hit more GHz. I strongly recommend some nice i7 over this, even if it's GHz number is lower, it will run better and a lot more efficient, faster in many situations too.

Getting an ssd is neat, but you really need a hard disk too.

Water cooling is kind of a gimmick, but if you do it do it right.

Buy some normal ram. All this "gaming" ram nonsense is just a marketing scam to ask ridiculous amounts of money for ram. So is the minor frequency increase to 2400MHz. Get two 8gb sticks for way less than $200.

I think buying nvidia gpu's is definitely the best bet. A gtx 960 or 970 will do fine.

To my knowlage 8 GB DDR 3 is better than some UBERPROMG gamer RAM. 16 GB is kinda excessive imo but could be a ok to upgrade in the future perhaps?

Nvidia just makes superior GPUs too.

How do you know that senna is a linux user? I have played with him (a very long time ago btw) and he never mentions playing on a Linux OS.

Isn't it logical to just assume he is?

1. By spring/linux he means opengl

2. Universal desktop OS statistics are meaningless in an open source community, because it tends to be skewed toward using other open source software much higher than average (I.E. Windows usage among engine devs is 0%)

The point is ATI used to have bad opengl drivers, so games like Spring and OSes like Linux which rely entirely on opengl work better with Nvidia.
And yes, it's likely there are more FLOSS users on a FLOSS site..
