Enjoying my break from all of this... playing warmachine
Not bad for someone who has not painted a mini in 7+ years. I am not permanently playing Khador but they are going to suit me until I learn the game more.
Honestly I am really stoked about wrong eye+magnus under 4star list. Along with emagnus bad seeds list.
so any of you play this game? I only played 1 round of learning play and I rather like the mechanics.

no. get back on that computer.
Re: Enjoying my break from all of this... playing warmachine
Your paint skillz seems to be more than adequate.
Warmachine sculpts are so sexy... If I WAS going to get into miniature wargaming that's where I would start.

makes one wish, we could import such stuff via 3dscanner.. but hey.. im content at the moment.
Its easy to demand new shiny stuff..
its quite pleasing if you can build new shiny stuff with the old stuff you got.

You know you want to see it moving
Re: Enjoying my break from all of this... playing warmachine
It really really looks like the stuff you have in those ultra-high-def cutscenes before your inner eye..

It would be super cool if they had some kind of model aware 3D scanner so you could import your custom paint jobs to that game.
Re: Enjoying my break from all of this... playing warmachine
Don't you miss large explosions?
Re: Enjoying my break from all of this... playing warmachine
it would be cool if people stopped thinking 3d modeling works this way. You are as bad as "enhance" in CSI.SinbadEV wrote:http://warmachinetactics.com/Silentwings wrote:You know you want to see it moving

I don't miss the explosions jools, the people at the shop are much more enjoyable than all the drama here.
Re: Enjoying my break from all of this... playing warmachine
You should like explosions. It's what (the only thing) separates us humans from the animals.
Re: Enjoying my break from all of this... playing warmachine
Silentwings made that mistake. In my case the software I'm imagining would already have the model to work with so it would be the texturing part i'm a moron about.smoth wrote:it would be cool if people stopped thinking 3d modeling works this way. You don't even know enough to know why that is still wrong dude. I am going back to my painting.

Just to remind you that - one can do modells this way, have a nice holiday.

Und dann: it works. And if you're a cheapsack, you can just use kinect.
(though only shape, not texture, no speculars, etc. I guess this is what smoth's rants are about: you cannot just 'scan' material properties that easily with off-the-shelf equipment)
My thought whenever i see miniatures threads is "huh i'd just buy a 3d printer if i wanted to get into this, will be cheaper and more fun".

Yesterday read that article, which seems relevant: http://www.theastronauts.com/2014/03/vi ... an-carter/
Throughout it they keep saying how it's not just snap some photos, feed them to software, bam model. You still need some specific skills to take the right kind of photo, to clean up the geometry and uv maps, etc...

not just specular. Also issues with polycounts edge hardness hidden edges such as the insides of my warjacks arms etc. I really don't see why you guys are entertaining this idiotic conversation.

Your picture taking skills are clearly better than my own and your painting skills don't offer me much of a challenge - I lag behind quite a bit:
---
I didn't get into the hobby, though. It was starting to look Games Workshop «I'll suck you up as much as I can possible can» all over again. The water drop that tilted it was when I talked with a guy that had been a Warmachine evangelist and he explained to me that I had to buy the rulebook + 2 other books to have the "majority" of the rules for the race I wanted to play and only then would I have the "majority" of the rules - before looking down and to the side in embarassment.
I am now able to easily afford that hobby with my London IT salary, but I am not able to psicologically afford to feel like someone is ripping me off and taking advantage of me.
I often feel sad about that, though - I often wish I'd play it. Every single game I watched looked to be much much more interesting than Warhammer or Warhammer 40K.
I really feel that tabletop gaming suits the nerdy computer geeks like a glove - it feels reeeeally nice to be in touch with reality again, picking and moving physical concrete things, while still being a calm and geeky nerdy passtime.---
