Champagne recommendations for new year...

Post by zerver »

I don't really have any recommendations myself at this time, but if someone has please post...

Only real champagne please, or if you are 100% sure the sparkling wine is of comparable quality as true champagne.

The problem with champagne in general is that certain vintages are good, and by the time you find out what is good it is typically too expensive or already sold out.

90% french pips are not even able to make the difference in taste between the real champagne and the "petillant wine" that come from the area of champagne... Still price range varies much between the two.

Since this thread derailed already, I add that 60% of eye injuries in France are caused by flying wine corks.

New year is also the totally wrong time of year to drink champagne, at least in Europe. Still many people do so, and even outdoors in subzero temperatures. It is better enjoyed on a tropical beach.

I recommend champagne for dessert instead of with the food. Dessert typically has less complex flavors that can interfere with the intricate nuances of the champagne bouquet. Dry champagne also balances the sweetness found in most desserts in a nice way, similar to the effect of coffee.

To me champagne is that thing that you might get to clink glasses at 00:00 and then you launch a rocket from the bottle.

it's bad practice to do that you will break the glass if it is a nice crystal.

I honestly don't get the big deal of new years. Solstice should mark the new years not some arbitrarily placed later date. We are just carrying the tradition of bad science.

Anyways I used to pick up good 5 dollar champagne at the gas station across the highway. It was always good for head aches. Now if you want to impress some one, just look at price. And but something stupidly over priced, so you can talk about it.
