Non-Spring Random WIP

Re: Non-Spring Random WIP
What tools did you use for that? And what did your work flow look like?
Re: Non-Spring Random WIP
There are no internals. It's too hard to find good reference material for that so I'd have nothing to work off of. I'd need direct access to a real R8 to do that, and... it's a little above my pay grade.
I used Blender. I extruded contour outlines from basic blueprints, then filled everything in going off of reference images. Details like headlights were added last. Each piece is modeled as a separate object from the very start. Laying out contours first to block things out helps to preserve good topology discipline from the start instead of going back and fixing after the shape is correct, which speeds up the workflow and keeps good SubD smoothing. Rendering is just default materials in Cycles.

Re: Non-Spring Random WIP
That is a cool car.
How do you keep all your corners and edges nice and sharp with the subD stuff going on?

Re: Non-Spring Random WIP
Oh god this is turning out to be more work than I realised.
Re: Non-Spring Random WIP
So I have a new life-eating hobby...
presently building a 32-channel servo controller board using four shift registers. It's going to drive shitty RC servos that will comprise the joints of an 18DOF hexapod robot. Also working on a quadcopter. Designing and 3d printing the parts for both; also aiming for a high degree of autonomy in their control. Running before i can walk. Here's a wip quadcopter frame; failed design due to longitudinal flexibility (it's plenty rigid along the other two dimensions though). Starting fresh on that one.

Peet lives in the crawlspace of a large water treatment plant.
Re: Non-Spring Random WIP
These structures he printed them himself? I see the marks of the makerbots
Re: Non-Spring Random WIP
It's a Mendel, actually.
Re: Non-Spring Random WIP
Something nice for my girl for valentines (she deserves a nice gift for putting up with years of my nonsense)
They are polymer clay and acrylic paint. needs a little more cleanup work and then a few coats of varnish but you get the general idea.
Looking good Peet!
Bruce what are you making? Not sure but it looks pretty cool.
Re: Non-Spring Random WIP
bruce that harbor feature set is pd if you need some models for scenery.Das Bruce wrote:Oh god this is turning out to be more work than I realised.
Re: Non-Spring Random WIP
It's going to be a blend of Total War and Civilisation games. This is the first non arse looking build that uses shaders instead of immediate mode rendering, so I'm pretty chuffed with that. There's an immense amount of work involved, but I feel this will look pretty good on portfolio and will allow me to improve and broaden my skill set.KaiserJ wrote:Bruce what are you making? I thought of that when making this, but you weren't online. Where can I get it from?smoth wrote:bruce that harbor feature set is pd if you need some models for scenery.
Re: Non-Spring Random WIP
should be posted in the modeling resources subforum.

Fuck you jpg compression.

Re: Non-Spring Random WIP
Really nice atmosphere, Bob!
Peet, I recommend you get your quadcopter training wheels on something cheap yet great. Get a Hubsan X4, it costs less than any part you might break on a bigger one ($40). It also flies like a champion :)

that looks interesting, scifi
imo those HP/Armor bars looks a little bit RPG'ish
through nicely detailed nonetheless

Spicing up the gfx of QuakeWorld for my next frag-video.

Re: Non-Spring Random WIP
I made a manatee by logging the position of my car in a game:
There is an socket interface thing send to information between game and external programs. This was first test to roughly check if scaling to meters was correct. (placed the yellow tire stacks in a 50 meters square and then drove around them, touching them all.)
In middle did a slalom around the hayball things.
Then tried replay of a race:
Have not yet completly figured out how to identify players, otherwise would have chosen a car that did more interessting crashes or spins.
Noticable how on the straights the line is thicker, guess from passing other cars and because the chosen line does not matter so much.
At entry and exit of corners the line gets thinner as that are places where you want to drive as precisely as possible, enter turns from outside edge of track etc. In the turn itself it is thicker again because the car is at limit of grip and trying to drift away.
