Yes, true.

I really don't see the problem with politics and religion. It's like mods are afraid of discussions. Their job isn't to ban all discussions, but to deal with offenders...

Yeah, its difficult to be attached to something without love or hate, and as long as noone here returns my heartfelt affections, i shall resort to stalking and flamebaiting.

But i guess, banning all rage and poltics, everything emotional, is by itself a religious opinion. Spock has spoken his last word here!

The problem is when the nubs get entangled in the ragepages.

false.

this can almost guaranty rage:

Hon is a crap game and LOL is superior..

BA is a terribly balanced piece of crap and behe has made it better.

ZK's communism is the best...

blah blah

etc.

Just because you guys have lost you main flame bait and rage threads doesn't make the forum boring. It makes it more civil. people raging and acting like douches is not what this site is for. If you want that go to 4chan and post about circumcision/americasuperior/pretendtobecamwhore.

this is not a toilet, stop looking to shit in here. If you wanted that, then maybe you were in the wrong place to begin with.

How are civil discussions about politics and religion flame baits and rage threads?

And if you think they are, then why post in them?

You cannot be seriously asking that. I have not seen 1 political thread stay civil.

Civil enough compared to the other threads on this forum.

And why not just warn people who are uncivil instead of banning the discussion?

I worry that by writing this post I will be banned for participating in the politics of recursion.

thank you for priting those soft words. Those posts always make the best paper.

So politics are banned, but discussing forum-politics is allowed? I sense a metha-done rage!

surely people can see a discussion about a mod can become just as uncivil..
Thing is, mods and games and the engine are actually not that popular a topics XD ...
Politics, religion, economy, current events, all these are discussed a lot and hence you also get noticeable amounts of rage.
This is not a reason to ban all these topics just as flames in a BA discussion do not call for the closing of the BA subforum...

This ban feels more like an impulsive reaction than a thoroughly thought through course of action.

It is interesting to see how people do not see a correlation between things like the UK's president's thoughts about closing down social networks and banning certain topics in a forum.
As if the thought process in these 2 cases does not steam from the same source and attitude..
If we cant overcome such patterns of thought and action why are we outraged when our leaders/representatives cant either?

This forum isn't the place for them none the less

Ba is a spring project and has a right to be here unlike politics, it is related to spring.

you just registered what do you know? either you are a smurf and have lost all credibility by hiding behind a false account or are not active enough(lurking person) to have enough history in this forum's discussions.

because this isn't a government. This isn't going to limit your ability to have fundamental exchanges. Crying OMG tyranny on a forum over something like this is old-hat exaggeration. You cannot compare real world oppression with a forum saying that subjects unrelated to it cannot be discussed.

time and time again peoples' arguments from one thread spill over into another; politics and religion are always a heated topic... people make enemies, and having these discussions was a catalyst for other arguments and anger. political and religious leanings are well varied; one person could make a "perfectly fine" statement that makes someone else rage. would you like to be banned for your political or religious beliefs, regardless of how reasonable you feel they are by being labelled as a troublemaker?

beyond that, banning for an extreme political or religious statement is foolish especially if said person to be banned is a community contributor... somebody's views and opinions in this sort of manner should not count towards their status on the project.

also by allowing such discussions, you're putting a lot of pressure on moderators to make a decision about "is this bannable". do you REALLY have enough faith in me to make the correct decision, full-well knowing that i have my own views on politics and religion? well, you shouldn't, because i'm merely a layman; i've never studied politics or religion above a highschool level... can you REALLY expect me to make the right decision every time regarding the acceptability of comments?

if you want to argue about politics and religion with spring players, we have mumble, the lobby server, AND we have a moderation-free forum ready to go at spring players forum

95% decrease in posting? do some creative work for spring and make a thread to fill the gap 8) or use your imagination and argue about something else

what are the pros to allowing it? besides "excitement"? do any of the pro-discussion reasons actually help developers?

Than just close the offtopic subforum since it does not help developers...
Why does his forum even have an offtopic subforum...
How about you do not moderate offtopic at all?

I dunno about enemies, i disagree with Forb nearly 85 % of the time, and so with a lot of the others. Still, i consider them sort of "causcecolleges" - im actually glad they show the same sort of forgiveness when i get carried away with irony into cynism.

So, if you really like someone, you can stand alot of nonsense.

Offtopic exist because we do want to talk about spring stuff that doesn't cause unneeded hostility in the community. Sure most topics can cause some hostility but religion and politics are deeply seated in people's psychological world view. You cannot discuss them without offending people. Period.
Professor wrote:How about you do not moderate offtopic at all?
because like he said, it spills over to the rest of the community

The thread has been answered imo. Lock?

aha but it doesn't HINDER them either, which is essentially what politics/religion does (by drawing lines that separate us all)
Why does his forum even have an offtopic subforum...

off-topic exists so people can share personal information and stories; to socialize without crapping up the other subforums. poli/reli aside, many people here have common interests... i personally like hearing the game and movie suggestions. moderation is necessary to keep a semblance of order and decorum for forum newcomers.

there are no walls surrounding you, you're free to travel wherever you like on the internet and comment however you like. when you're here, you're subject to the rules just like everybody else.

i like reading political discussion, however, some people here are incapable of posting in such a thread without strong language or cutting down somebody elses' position in a rude manner. rather than allow SOME people to participate and others not, it's fairest just to disallow it here completely. the only other option is to allow it but to ban-storm people when they offend someone else (which really isn't fair at all because reasons for such a ban must rest at least somewhat in the realm of subjectivity)
