Oh please, as if they were just going to put down their weapons and surrender. If they would have been defeated by conventional methods they would have made it a point to be as bloody as possible and kill many of their OWN civilians. The japanse alternative to defeat is sucide.

The war was horrible and someone had to do it.

There were many reasons to nuke japan part of it was putting stalin in line.

You can be all "ohh but the human cost was so high" as you turn a blind eye to the way shit went down in japan. No matter what that fight was going to end in mass loss of life one way or another. War isn't pretty when one happens the civilians suffer. Unless of course you are going to pretend england had it easy and civilians were spared.

The only difference is 2 big bombs instead of months and months of brutal fighting where the japanese would kill off their own population.

Seriously, I am all into gundam and anime and shit. hell one day I want to visit japan but you have to be willfully ignorant to not know how they fought and would kill themselves or their own people when losing.

they literally self-d and ragequit life

The Committee noted of Hiroshima that it was "an important army depot and port of embarkation in the middle of an urban industrial area. It is a good radar target and it is such a size that a large part of the city could be extensively damaged. There are adjacent hills which are likely to produce a focusing effect which would considerably increase the blast damage. Due to rivers it is not a good incendiary target." Hiroshima was the headquarters of not only the 5th Division but the Japanese 2nd Army. The city of Nagasaki had been one of the largest sea ports in southern Japan and was of great wartime importance because of its wide-ranging industrial activity, including the production of ordnance, ships, military equipment, and other war materials.
blah blah blah.

Still Civilian cities. They could have just bombed the fleet.

I don't think such killing is something to be proud of, quite the opposite, but I don't see any value in misunderstanding the motives and reasoning that lead to these actions of war and I don't think its fair to judge without taking the situation into account.

this was, perhaps, even less excusable:

when they realise you have a nuke they will shit their pants and surrender anyway.

If the whole point of the weapon was a statement. Nothing would be bigger than destroying a fleet in one blow.

Anyway enough of this retarded discussion.

It has made me realise why I have a dislike for the majority of Americans I meet on the internet.

Hindsight and theories 65 years after the fact are one thing. I can't imagine this was a decision of pure bloodfury.

I'm english. never been to the US. Check out the bombing of dresden (by the RAF and USAF). Such senseless death was not unprecidented in those desperate times.

Its easy, sitting on the mountaintop of the future, judging those who stayed behind in the valleys of the past. Both sides tried everything, this included biological warfare (pestilence-flea-dropped) and baloons to incinerate forrest fires in america. If japan would have had nukes, they would have used it, and beeing a democratic country, the us-president feared the votes of the people, who had enough of pacific fighting of a prolonged ww2 - not to mention justifying the enormous amount of tax-money that went into this superweapon. Japan was already defeated, and smoth is right there, wouldnt have given up, even if america would have conquered tokio itself.

Let there also be noted, that never again, ever after, the United States used nuclear weapons, although some quite popular generals asked for them, or hysteric people demanded there first strike use.

Otherside you have an opinion and your looking for facts to support it as oppose to doing it the other way around.

How can one Doubt WW2 sides? If ever there was a "good vs evil" war this was it...
Dresden was pay back for german bombings of british cities,it was just and moral. You are willing ot let go of any human reason as long as you can support whatever twisted rationing you have adopted.

We punish people that did something we deem bad and send them to jail.
Is that just?
Is executing people based on crimes just?
What retribution is just and moral after a crime has been commited?
In out discussion the crimes are the aggressive actions taken both by germany and japan.
I state that both the nuclear bombing of japan and the bombing of cities in germany was just and moral.

The fact the japanese did not surrender is not the fault of the US.
Get your thinking straight...
Both the japs and the germans at that time did not value life which is why they were so unwilling to surrender.
Are the allies to be blamed for The fact their enemies did not care for themsleves and their own lives?

What about the Berlin assault? The German forces at that point had kids fighting...Was it moral than to try and capture Berlin if you are killing kids?
Yes, it was moral, and the allied forces cannot be blamed for germany's will to sacrifice its own children for a lost cause..

Lowering yourselves to commit the same depravities of those you despise defies morality. You certainly can't claim such actions are clear, white, moral. Maybe such vengeance is just, but striving to live better would be moral.

Three U.S. servicemen who made an effort to halt the massacre and protect the wounded were later denounced by U.S. Congressmen. They received hate mail, death threats and found mutilated animals on their doorsteps. It would take 30 years before they were honored for their efforts.

Yes, that stuff is not comparable to any firebombing and nuking US did in WW2, since at that time those were only done with the noble purpose of minimizing civilian casualties.

Implying us was the only one who firebombed.

implying us was the only one to inflict civilian casualties.

implying us had nothing like unit 731 oh wait they didn't.

implying us had nothing like concentration camps where they gased people to death. Oh wait they didn't

saying most of thread is just a large flame bait.

The Japanese who attacked pearl harbour and fought WW2, are long dead, or in old age having suffered.

The untold tens of thousands who have died in the tsunami/earthquakes and potentially nuclear fallout however, are totally innocent. They did not attack pearl harbour, they weren't even born!

Its like saying your all bastards because your forefathers held slaves in bondage. Totally ignorant of the culture you now live in.
