On the uni campus I have like 5mb/s down and I think I have downloaded a max of 50gb in a month.
You have to watch all the shit you download when youre just collecting for bad times (lol) that makes not much sense.

If I used Netflix to stream HD movies for about 2 hours a day (which is what my wife was doing for my kids) I would EASILY exceed the 60GB cap I'm under... 300GB is rather high but you must remember that there could be a whole family of people using the connection (dad downloading "movies", mom watching youtube videos her frriends on the internet posted (and uploading some of her own), young ones watching streaming Netflix kiddie shows and medium aged kids playing StarCraftII or downloading spring games...)... which would make it a lot easier to hit the 300GB upper cap.

also, you still have to pay for your GBs between 60 and 300 so I'm failing to understand why we are focusing on the number you start paying a different price after. that "maximum of 60" is on top of your existing 60$ a month your paying for your internet... so basically you internet is "free" between 90GB and 300GB yes... but only because you've already payed them 120$ for the privillage.

Netflix' HD streaming is 2 GB per hour. Let's say the average person watches 3 hours of TV per day. Now let's assume that, because there is more than one person in the house, it comes out close to 5. Mom and dad and a kid and a toddler, watching Mad Men and Farscape and Invader Zim and Dora. Maybe a movie in there too.

Now let's look at the worst-case scenario:

5*2Gb*30 days = 300GB.

That's TV only. Now, you could argue I'm overblowing it with 5h/day, but even with more modest numbers, we're consuming an assload of bandwidth, and that's just the TV. No games purchases on Steam, no video-chat with relatives overseas on Skype to show off the cute thing that toddler did, etc.

Come to NZ (Australia is pretty bad for this too iirc) my phone+DSL bill is about $114NZ ($87US) per month, for that I get 20GB (that's not a typo) and after that my speed get slammed down from 10Mbit to 64kbit. And that is a fairly standard plan (or was until recently, when I move next weekend I'm switching to 60GB/month for $104NZ for dsl+phone, because the telecomms companies are upgrading their plans because of a national fibre rollout) Unlimited plans are either unavailable or prohibitively expensive.
