Re: Movie recommendation
ip man is badass... you're not going to go wrong with donnie yen movies (every one i've seen has had amazing fight choreography) as long as you're not looking for anything deep and meaningful
if i had to criticize... too much chinese pride.

Jackie chan early movies>donnie yen ^^
What donnie yen scene can match this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUVBJkxAAa0
Or this:

When I Watch donnie yen movies, for me his fight scenes always seem lacking..
They are great but you keep expecting something really awesome to happen and it just doesn't.

but it's not really a fair comparison because jackie chan always has an element of humor in his choreography wheras donnie yen these days just goes for the "i want to hurt you badly" sort of fights; kung fu movies back then were more like the traditional chinese plays and performances wheras nowadays everything is tainted at least a little bit by movies like matrix or crouching tiger where everything has to be super spectacular and relying more on special effects and less than martial arts skills.
jackie chan stayed humorous pretty much his whole career and i've never seen him do any wire fights (only recently it seems he's doing more serious roles) wheras IMO donnie yen graduated to more of a chuck norris role because he simply wasn't as funny...
http://youtu.be/IWnIG8dNLLM <- six years later than drunken master; another drunken style, same director... different kind of funny. worth a watch for sure, and perhaps a more fair comparison to the 2nd clip
i also figure stuff like UFC has changed the general perception of martial arts on TV... people are more accustomed to knowing whats a "real" punch or kick, and demand similar realism from their action movies (certainly the injuries in my clips look worse, although in actuality they are staged attacks and don't hurt really much at all)
anyways i watch all of jackie chans movies too, i don't doubt that he's both a better martial artist and has better movies overall, and he's probably tougher and even though he's old could probably beat up donnie yen IRL.
jackie chan has more universal appeal.

The main actress is so convincing and annoying that I wanted to punch her in the face 200 times.KaiserJ wrote:nikita is such an awesome movie
Also the movie is brutally 90s the kind of style where people didnt realize the trashy elements they put in their films. (This started in 1979 and ended ~1994 )
There are cool 90s films like pulp fiction and leon and some others but nikita is not a cool 90s film.
Re: Movie recommendation
Limitless is a good film, and so is Black Swan if you haven't seen that already. Watched them both yesterday.
Re: Movie recommendation

Finally, a society on the horizon in which guys like me can fit easily.. Talking to yourself loud in public, noone cares, everyone asumes supersmall handy, grabbing for things in midair- nobody does care, because shizo, could have holo, and drugs? You dont do drugs? FREEEEAAAAAKKKKK!
I got velocet in my moloko when i was a kid! Did it make me ultraviolent? Did it make me brutal? I here nobody stating anything into that direction.. thats right, dont move that jaw, until its completely healed..
Re: Movie recommendation
i dunno if i agree so much about the illegal drug glorification but the movie is certainly reflective of our "pop a pill, solve a problem" society...
drugs can make you fat or thin, they can make you a better student; a better soldier... they can take away bad emotions and replace them with better ones.
