I really enjoyed Horde, a French zombie horror. The computer generated set elements were not so great, but hey.

You might also like Harry Brown, though it is a comparatively slow paced revenge film. There is no glamour in it, which I prefer, and the commentary on classism and urban decline is delightful.

Just watched Green Lantern. It's alright, but just a bit predictable or linear in the sense that it's just like every other modern superhero comic film production with effects and CGI being the real piece rather than an awesome storyline or characters.

Good for kids between 10-16 sort of ages.

I also thought it was a great comic based film for kids...
It's got a few laughs cgi, it's not too dumb...

If you want to see a good movie about superheroes go watch "Watchmen". It was really good imo.

"Harry Brown" wasn't bad.

+1 to watchmen. Wished all directors grabbed a comic masterpiece and turn it into something like this. Well, the guy handled 300 with care, nothing moar to say.

There seem to be a special kind of director who can handles scifi/fantasy/comic stuff with honesty, meaning they dont treat it like another brand to rip off money. And you can feel that.
James McTeigue (co-directed darkcity)
Zack Snyder

The longer i watch the development of movies, the moar important the role of the director seems to me. So i look what they do next and wait for whatever they work on in anticipation.

You also get this feeling, when you watch there previous movies, and there is this sudden turn of event, that makes no sense.
Martin Campell for exampel:
Did two bond movies (golden eye & casino royal)
then two zorro movies
a polit-thriller (crownjuwel of genres, but despised by the
masses)
all of those non-cgi intensive

and suddenly green lantern. Money makes even the old dogs jump through burning hoops? So, im on the tip of my toe, whenever somebody does a sudden change of field. There assistance-directors may avoid the ultimate disaster if talented, but they can not create the red line that a good director draws.

so why did he "fail" with "Sucker Punch" ? The movie is not bad but I liked it much less than I actually wanted to. Somehow he forgot to put something in there that would make the whole movie better and I cant put my finger on what it is (soul?). I know that when the movie ended I was left unsatisfied. Sure the whole thing is a feast for the eyes and I mean both the CGI aswell as the girls but there was not enough story to justify a movie imo. If youre asking me I think this script would have been perfect for a PC game. Small story parts tied together by passages where you have to defeat hords of enemies? It felt to me like a step backwards for Snyder so I'm a bit disappointed but I am still looking forward to his future works.

On another note:

"Source Code" is really good. Its a bit more mainstream that Jones' previous work: "Moon" with Sam Rockwell but its the good kind of mainstream. So if you need a fix of entertainment go check it out.

I found Sucker Punch to be be disappointing too. I thought that it would have more of a plot to it.

Sucker Punch was meant to do with plot as much as 300 did i think. that means, it wasnt the main point of it in my opinion. more like interesting world(s), crazyness and chaos. enjoyed it, but i have to agree i expected more.
