Valve viral stuff going on (Portal 2 announced!)

Here's a starting point with some info:

Interesting. ASCII images that seem to be from Half Life, Portal, Quake, etc.

Some crazy guy suggested G-Man is Glados. Now wouldn't THAT be a mind****.

The gist seems to be there will probably be an announcement of some kind at GDC, maybe when Gabe Newell accepts his prize for not dying of heart disease or whatever it is.

I'm excited about anything Valve makes. Well, maybe not another Left 4 Dead redo... but Portal 2 or HLe3 would both be win.

It's for keeping the moon in orbit.

Get it, you won't regret it. Besides it's like $10 now I think.

It's pretty crazy when you think about what they just did.

They released an update without relevant notes, people discovered the new achievement and sound files, checked all the sound files and figured out something was going on, decoded morse code, converted SSTV files in a series of distorted images containing random letters and numbers that made and MD5 hash when put in order, and that was decoded to be a phone number, which turned out to be a BBS number, and was located in Washington, then people connected to it with archaic hardware, and using hints from the previously mentioned morse code, found a way to log in to an old school terminal interface and were given ASCII art images related to Portal.

All that in ~6 hours. Damn.

...people discovered...

Sounds more like the developers did it themselves.

well of course they set it up. I'm just saying it's crazy how fast everyone figured it out.

They pretended to have figured it out themselves. IMHO.

No, I've talked to a lot of people who took part in the solving. Not to mention it was spread way across the internet on a ton of different forums by countless users, it's not like a bunch of Valve employees planted themselves all over like that.

Steam is going to come out on Mac, likely with Mac support for all the Valve titles.

I don't give a crap about Mac BUT that's practically like giving Linux support, which means I just might finally ditch Windows forever. :D

Curses, I have the Orange Box for my PS3 so I only get to experience this stuff third hand... I wish I was the kind of geek that had managed to leverage my geekiness into wealth.
