well if the universe is infinite that means that it is also infinitely unlikely for there to be a finite number of things beside empty space on it.KDR_11k wrote:Naah, that doesn't follow.manored wrote:If you think about it its quite a stupid statement, because if the universe is infinite this also means there is an infinite amount of things inside it :)

Ah, but if there were an infinite amount of anything tangible, or baryonic (made of matter, for the none scientists), then the universe would logically be full of said items. As the universe is not, it is reasonable to presume that if there is anything infinite, it is none material. As such, human stupidity qualifies as a more than pertinent example.manored wrote:well if the universe is infinite that means that it is also infinitely unlikely for there to be a finite number of things beside empty space on it.KDR_11k wrote:Naah, that doesn't follow.manored wrote:If you think about it its quite a stupid statement, because if the universe is infinite this also means there is an infinite amount of things inside it :)

How so? Just because your coordinate space is infinite does not mean you have to have an infinite number of points in it. Matter doesn't come into existence just because there's room (except for virtual particles but they don't count as things since they disappear very quickly again). An infinite amount of matter or energy would require an infinite mass which would have gravity effects we would be able to measure.manored wrote:well if the universe is infinite that means that it is also infinitely unlikely for there to be a finite number of things beside empty space on it.
Re: How stupid can someone be?
Well in our dimension that would be correct, altough you could then say that it is finite but more space is created as you reach its borders, but the word "universe" stands for everthing that exists, and if it is infinite that means it also exists in a infinite amount of manners we cannot understand.KDR_11k wrote:How so? Re: How stupid can someone be?
if it is infinite, it equals zero.

Depends from the point of view :)TradeMark wrote:if it is infinite, it equals zero.
