well if the universe is infinite that means that it is also infinitely unlikely for there to be a finite number of things beside empty space on it.

well if the universe is infinite that means that it is also infinitely unlikely for there to be a finite number of things beside empty space on it.
Ah, but if there were an infinite amount of anything tangible, or baryonic (made of matter, for the none scientists), then the universe would logically be full of said items. As the universe is not, it is reasonable to presume that if there is anything infinite, it is none material. As such, human stupidity qualifies as a more than pertinent example.

How so? Just because your coordinate space is infinite does not mean you have to have an infinite number of points in it. Matter doesn't come into existence just because there's room (except for virtual particles but they don't count as things since they disappear very quickly again). An infinite amount of matter or energy would require an infinite mass which would have gravity effects we would be able to measure.

Well in our dimension that would be correct, altough you could then say that it is finite but more space is created as you reach its borders, but the word "universe" stands for everthing that exists, and if it is infinite that means it also exists in a infinite amount of manners we cannot understand.
