Wait, i thought to have cult status ment that you had to NOT have mainstream appeal WHILE attaining a strong obessive fanbase.

Didn't CoD4 have mainstream appeal or no?

Cult status does not necessary presuppose mainstream success, though in the past that was a component of the definition. It is really up to your personal interpretation.

Uh... and I said that, yes, your interpretation was once the indisputable standard, though now the definition has become less lax.

I thought cult status meant that the game would still be played a lot after like 10 years (starcraft, total annihilation, worms, fallout), Not that it sold well (disctinction between a cult game and commercial success?)

The Beatles have cult status. They were the most successful band ever, but now Beatles fandom is almost a religion.

Masterchief without helmet... he is revealed.. i always knew that fight with the Flood was Family buisness.. it was so fierce, so evil, so much hate.. nobody would make a battle that personal, unless it was auntie gravemind who want┬┤s to give her nephew a kiss on the helmet..

I think steam is great, and i think PC gaming will survive, consoles to me seem too locked down.

I think Consoles will become PCs through the Backdoor...

Just imagine some SourceFanboi writing a little Halowarsutility for Mouse/Keyboardsupported Controll resulting in epic win in Multiplayer.. and suddenly keyboards/mouse everywhere.. although i admit they migh have to find something new to have better text& Cursorcontroll from the couch, that ain┬┤t a Keyboard or Trackball...

The locked hardware minimizes compatibility concerns at the cost of a hard limit on ability which becomes relatively less advantageous as the generation ages.
