Depends on the mod, but in general I'd say Arm is more a faction of speed, whereas Core focuses more on brute force. But again, that depends on the mod.

ARM: The Good Guys, has fast but less powerful units. Good at tech1, rushing/raiding.

CORE: The Bad Guys, has slower more powerful units, Good at tech2, if you survive.

I'll assume you're talking about BA, but it's similar for all the TA based mods.

Basically, ARM have more special ops stuff. A lot of cloaking units and EMP weapons. They also have a better airforce. They also have some of the faster raiding units. They get a little weaker as you go further in the tech tree.

CORE are more brute force. Very little access to cloaking and EMP and stuff. Their units are a bit slower and a bit more expensive. However, they are generally more powerful than their ARM equivalents. They get a bit stronger as you move up the tech tree.

Storywise, CORE used to own the galaxy and run everybody in a happy utopia thing. Basically an Earth government thing. Then one day it decided to upload everyone's consciousness onto computer and discard the bodies, making them functionally immortal. ARM didn't want to be part of a computer so they had a civil war and TA was all about fighting near the end of this war. Theoretically, ARM have clone people in battlesuits while CORE has humans on computers copied into machine robots, but the story of TA was never really well fleshed out and pretty much none of it matters.

Please, let's use the correct, non copyright infringing names. The Limb seems to be better at small maps (slightly stronger early game), while the Middle seems to be better at large maps (slightly stronger end game).

I think core is better, but in my opinion it also depends greatly in how you like to play because each faction haves some units that possess no equivalent in the other one. (for example arm haves the atomic bomber while core haves the flying fortress that is not a equivalent)

In xta the main difference is that core have vastly superior economical developement, whereas arm get a mid game offensive edge.

This is because the core can build mini-fusions to power their mohos, thus being able to go adv kbot and get necros up early. Arm, however, must go advanced vehicles in order to access the mobile fusion, the tradeoff for lower build power being (primarily) the very cheap catch all defence skirmisher that is the spider, and the awesomely awesome panther.

The longer you allow a core player to build and creep fowards with large implaceable units, the harder time you will have as arm.

I normally draw a parallel with c&c red alert factions, the arm being the allies, and the core being the soviets: Fast moving specialised units with low armour vs the sledgehammer of heavy armour with supporting artillery.

e: for the record i prefer arm for aesthetic reasons

On the whole I'd say they're pretty even but as unbalanced units go arm has the worst offenders.

I always thought it was

Zipper/Freaker
Zeus/Pyro
Maverick/Morty

And then Fido could be the Arm equivilent of the Dominator, or Core artillery, or even a balance for the Core Goliath.

Freaker is a builder in BA, its a lvl 1 kbot in XTA,

Zipper/pyro are fast raider kbots in BA,

Morty and fido in BA both have ballistic trajectories

Zeus > pyro, diffrent uses (again, in BA)
