Would spring benefit from a dataview like sim city has one?
Decolour all the objects in the world and then recolour them depending on data?

Sure

Would be cool to have one of those heatmap style overlays on an F1-F12 key which shows where units died over the course of the battle, like halo has. Then you could learn the best place to build turrets etc

Perfectly doable through a Lua widget, today as well as ten years ago.
