Can you and if you can please elaborate (or provide a link) edit just the map size of a map. What I mean is can you scale a map so that it is larger than it was before.

Yes, just scale up all the source file images and then recompile through mapconv. Check the mapmaking wiki to confirm all your image sizes are correct.

There is no easy, GUI way to do it though.

Decompiling is relatively straightforward with springmapedit, the only area where you will defininitely run into some difficulty is with geo vents and features.
