Make me a moderator

Post by FLOZi »

Pro:

I check forums regularly and hate spambots
I'm not that antagonistic to Forb anymore and Argh left years ago

Cons:

I am still a dick sometimes 8)
Maybe we don't really need another mod but I'm just sick of clicking report instead of delete

Discuss.

Sure, seeing less spam would be nice. But if we were basing it solely upon your pros and cons you listed then most people would fit the bill :P

I like spam.

And No! You can't have the egg, bacon, Spam, and sausage without the Spam, because it wouldn't be egg, bacon, Spam, and sausage then.

Forum moderators aren't related to lobby moderators, or at least, they shouldn't be.

IIRC all forum moderators are also lobby moderators.

@Nemo: I would if I had a working gaming computer! Finals are finally over! :D :D :D

I hate spambots as well, I immediately permaban them and delete posts but it doesn't seem to affect them :/ what we really need is more stringent forum sign up. Perhaps email verification if not already in place? A different form of captcha?

I'm not opposed to FLOZi being a moderator, I just don't think more moderators is an optimal solution to the spambots.

I fear for the freedom of speech. How to discuss wiki-vandalisations now without getting hammered?

Couldnt we bribe them into revealing who they work for- so we can get back to those?

Don't their links generally go to the company they are working for?

If PHPBB wasn't so out-dated they'd be decent MODs to combat spamming of any kind.

For now, why not just set a user's first post to require moderator approval before they can post freely? That option's built into PHPBB iirc.

With a little bit of tweaking, you could even just do that but approval can be granted by a custom group of all the active members.

Perhaps your thinking of WordPress. There's an akismet mod for phpbb IIRC, it would be a vast improvement in spam control.

ps: I think the bit of a dick sentiment has a precedent in the gamble that was giving dasbruce mod power, I dont see any nuclear apocalypse debris since he was given it
