Spring Files Advertisements
Out of curiosity, where do the profits from JJs springfiles go now that it's hosted on Lichos server?

Re: Spring Files Advertisements
i dont think a site like that is 'profitable'
i bet licho is a mega millionaire now and eats off a gargantuan DSD table.
or it covers server costs
srsly what kind of answer are you expecting?

a factual one? Obviously the money goes somewhere.forest_devil wrote:srsly what kind of answer are you expecting?
Re: Spring Files Advertisements
He presumably means "does JJ still get the ad income even though he's no longer paying server costs?"
Re: Spring Files Advertisements
WOAH WHAT THE...
i was like, wtf, profits ?
i thought this site is made just for spring maps, games, widgets etc etc. now when i googled it and frontpage opened i was shocked D: 342 games D:

Re: Spring Files Advertisements
I don't care if jj makes ad revenue offa hosting links to my maps. I donate to the spring server fund also. WUT NOA!
Re: Spring Files Advertisements
Springfiles.com is owned by jj and hosted on springrts.com main server.
Hosting for springfiles is provided for free for jj.
Jj gets the advertising income (if there is such thing?)
Spring community/me pays for the main springrts.com server through direct donations.

Re: Spring Files Advertisements
What ads?
Re: Spring Files Advertisements
=\ advertisement revenue should go towards paying server costs, they're high enough as it is, that or adverts should be removed, as they only benefit JJ. Or their removal, they're quite intrusive already
Re: Spring Files Advertisements
lol what... jj is building a game download site with the expense of spring engine bandwidth??
that doesnt sound legitimate...
that doesnt sound legitimate...
Re: Spring Files Advertisements
JJs justification for advertisements was the cost of bandwidth and hosting. That cost is no longer his, Licho shoulders the cost of the server and bandwidth, and we donate to lessen the burden.
If what Licho says is true, then JJs adverts are pure profit, personal profit, since he no longer has costs to pay for that site. He would be benefiting financially directly from the community.

Re: Spring Files Advertisements
It would be ok if he hosted all non-spring files with his own bandwidth.
Re: Spring Files Advertisements
Why are donations dedicated to Spring used to host Supreme Commander files and dozen other games?

This is a much better questionRegret wrote:Why are donations dedicated to Spring used to host Supreme Commander files and dozen other games?
Re: Spring Files Advertisements
JJ has put a lot of effort into building SpringFiles. He is entitled to at least a tiny bit of ad income.

Re: Spring Files Advertisements
I want to make this clear..
I still pay for hosting costs at the old not used anymore server.
It is only used as a springfiles mirror at the moment.
I still have a contract for that. it will end in august.
2nd, i have payed many years the hosting costs for springfiles.
Ok, i received some donations, but the hosting costs where many times higher that income from donations or ads.
conclusion: i serve you since a couple of years with the springfiles file service. I spend many hours in developing springfiles, while i also spend more money in it then i received. Since a few months a use licho's server for springfiles. im happy with that and in the future i will pay some part of the hosting costs of this server. But for now i feel no need to it, since i spend way more then i received.
Im trying to attract more visitors to SF with the new games hosted there. if i succeed in making more ad income with more visitors, it is obvious for me that i will take part in covering the hosting costs of the spring server.
For now those games aren't downloaded many times and won't eat bandwidth from the server.
Feel free to leave a message if you still have unanswered questions.
