Linked Accounts

Post by oksnoop2 »

Is it possible to link all the log-in's for the spring related log-in stuff.

Boards
Springfiles
Lobby
Mantis

Just wanted to know, I think it would make things easier.

ORLY?
The Planetwars alpha already lifts account and login data from the server. All it takes is some cooperation and security code. :-)

I actually do run auth service now, its intent is to serve as entry point for zero-k project/sites.

If someone wants to authorize users using simple webservice, its available now.

Cool, Would the people in power care to weigh in on this?

He's one part of the power structure. Other parts have other auth interests as well, eventually we will have a better merged auth system in common use.

So if the auth server crashes, nobody can log in in the 50 different sites?

Forb and I have experimented with OpenID and facebook. Much success has been derived, although without a larger userbase or more cooperation from outside, it isnt worth much.

Speaking of openID, how hard would be to hammer that webservice of yours into an openID provider Licho? It would be pretty cool if we could rely on existing libraries in offshoot sites/services to auth against that.

I don't know what open ID is, my web service just returns lobby account information from login/password.

To make it work with openid there would need to be some way to link it to lobby account I guess.

OpenID is a universal identification spec.

Having a spring openID provider would be triple-awesome!

as i get it, the optimum way of using OpenID would be, to have it as a back-end. so the lobby, the forum and whatever would accept OpenID for login. we would not even need a spring provider then. this might be hard to do, or even impossible, also considering migration.
having an OpenID provider that uses the current user DB as back-end might be easier in the end, but not as light-weight and flexible.

theres like .. hundreds of providers, and as you have a server, you can even setup your own, or someone else in the community. i personally made one on launchpad (Ubuntu thing), and surely would not like to use googlefacebook account either.

I don't really see how the lobby server could become an openID consumer, but having an openID provider backed by the accounts db surely would be awesome.
There are a bunch of existing libraries o facilitate this: http://wiki.openid.net/Run-your-own-identity-server
esp. http://www.dotnetopenauth.net/ and http://github.com/openid/python-openid

SpringFiles 3.0 will support OpenID

(Drupal supports this by default :)

just throwing this out there, semi-related, but i think account consolidation would be best, ie add 2 accounts together .(ingame time). Account merging would be sweet, alot of people ahve 12 accounts with combined time to prob make them a vet.
