Goatse is far more well known than Spring. Goatse even slip through mainstream media. I'm not sure what's your point. That Wikipedia should censor porn?

Umm, quick question: If wiki deletes the spring article, can't the article just be posted in the spring wiki? Not that you'd want to, but I mean what is the main loss if the article is deleted?

Is it traffic? Please say its traffic.

Another quick idea my wife gave me when she asked 'why the hell [am I] getting all worked up while typing on the computer?': we can start a flame war with 4chan and get a headline in encyclopedia dramatica.

Just an idea...

Both the 2nd and 3rd journal publication link to Spring, and include even a screenshot in the paper.

EDIT: here's a link for them

EDIT 2:

ok, let me put some references together:
  • Sander Bakkes, Pieter Spronck, and Jaap van den Herik (2009). Opponent Modelling for Case-based Adaptive Game AI. Entertainment Computing. 1(1):27-37. link
  • Sander Bakkes, Pieter Spronck, and Jaap van den Herik (2009). Rapid and Reliable Adaptation of Video Game AI. IEEE Transactions on Computational Intelligence and AI in Games, 1(2):93-104. link
  • Guillaume Chaslot, Sander Bakkes, Istvan Szita and Pieter Spronck (>= 2008), Monte-Carlo Tree Search: A New Framework for Game AI

I think unless spring is also in one of those wikipedia lists like "list of free rts", "list of video game remakes" etc. not many potential players will come from the wiki article.
If wiki deletes the spring article, can't the article just be posted in the spring wiki? Not that you'd want to, but I mean what is the main loss if the article is deleted?
To save the article you mean? Imo in its current state its not worth saving. Also I think when something is deleted you can not just recreate the article because it would be seen as an "edit war."

I'd say that was a worthwhile post then. I'm working on the articles locally, and I'll bring them up when they're useful.

Realistically, Spring's wikipedia page should be blissfully short, since very little that can be said about Spring can be referenced.

I mean, the basic history can referenced with comments from the SY's themselves (originally intended to implement TA and SWTA content as a mid-step to developing their own game) and has developed to be more general-purpose. Notable mods include KP (for research reasons), PURE (commercial), BA (the de-facto standard of Spring), SWTA (for past fame). Us a KP screenshot or an old Star Wars Spring screenshot.

That's it. No laundry-list of features unless you can find a good article that mentions them. The current article reads like an advertisement.

The current article is poorly written and boring. If it is an advertisement, it is a very poor one.

Weee that sander bloke wanted one of my vids! Does that make me some sort of scientist?

And why not just get rid of most of the mod list and beef up the main engine part? Why spring can support X units due to Y etc, map formats etc etc, details on limiations..

So long as the article isn't filled with too much self praise and is a little sterile, i imagine the wiki gestapo would probably (hopefully) leave it alone in future?

Essentially, I'm structuring my replacement to follow the example set down by other, commercial engines, as well as games used for AI testing.
This means...

Overview
History
Engine Design, Features & Milestones
> A
> ...
> Z
Engine Use
> AI Testing
> Commercial Games
> Non-Commercial Games
Games Using
> Early
> ...
> Late
Games In Development
> A
> ...
> Z
Engine Tools

For games I am including a variety, but will only write articles for those which have, in themselves, some notability. I am also considering making an article for Wolfe Games, but Argh has not gotten back to me.

A) obviously a disgruntled spring player. What probably happened is that the guy on wikipedia tried to play spring. Then because he was a 1-bar he got kicked from battles, and rudely belittled for his 1 bar status.

B) Links to youtube videos, forum comments etc, are not valid resources.

C) There are public "news services" that allow you to post your own articles. This is commonly used to increase SEO etc, but it should work for our situation.

@Sefi

I've seen forum comments referenced when they're coming directly from the developers (ie posts by Van Rossum about Python, Carmack about Quake) particularly when they're stating history/intent and not specific features etc. - obviously when bragging about engine features, using first-party commentary probably isn't appropriate.

That is to say, when listing the history of the Spring project, I think listing forum comments from the SY's and later developers would probably pass muster, provided the rationale is explained in the Discussion page.
