Just a heads up. The Wikipedia article on the Spring Project is up for deletion.
Essentially the Wikipedia people think that "Spring" is not notable enough. There are not enough independent sources around that mention Spring. No real reviews, interview or other stuff.
Second problem is the quality of the article itself, Wikipedia uses quality standards for "video games", aricles must follow these and our article is not making the cut.

So this is an invitation to get some hype going and get reliable independent sources to write about Spring. And a request that people with some time to kill improve the Wikipedia article according to the quality standards they have defined.

Also don't go apeshit on the people that like to delete us from Wikipedia, it just looks bad and hurts our chances of keeping the article.

Who slated it for deletion? there is nothing on the discussion section stating reasoning.

These deletionist guys are fucking pricks. a few years back they tried to delete all of the gundam entries citing that gundam had no impact on the world at large and was not of note. Funny how last year an 18 meter 1:1 replica of the RX78 was built with working lights and smoke.

Seriously. this shit is getting old.

An editor who believes a page obviously and uncontroversially doesn't belong in an encyclopedia can propose its deletion.

I move that wikipedia be deleted as it is not acceptable as a citable reference in any serious academic arena.

I can't take these people seriously when they have nicks like 'Teancum'. :shock:

Didn't Spring get slashdotted a few years back? Wouldn't that be a reasonable external source?

I don't understand the purpose of the wikipedia policies.
How can no information possibly be better than some information?
IMHO only duplicated or false information should be removed.

Hahahah some talented editors wikipedia has - merge to TA article? Those guys are so clueless. :regret:

Edit: And if they want sources, maybe they have heard of this site called http://www.google.com ... Searching for spring, despite it being such a generic term meaning not only the season but a mechanical device too - Last I checked spring project was right below image search result for spring, on the first page, with only wikipedia and springsource scoring higher. I'm sure wikipedia editors know what's "notable enough" better than google! :roll: :regret:

Not the first time. I can't understand what kind of wanker goes around surfing wikipedia flagging articles about webcomics and opensource software as "not notable". Seriously, what the hell is wrong with people?

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?tit ... =158919380

There was already a fight about notability, back in 2007. The commentary on the subject was gutted back then.

This shit should not have to happen more than once.

Zsinj talked to PC Gamer and Star Wars Spring was discussed in there.

Our article is pretty terrible. I suggest we improve the article by adding more content and connections, change it to an engine rather than game article, and then start tossing in news references. SW:IW and S:44 have had press coverage, as has Spring itself.

If we change the article to match more conventional engines, such as the Quake Engine, and then provide sufficient coverage of at least a few games on the engine, I believe we can actually use this opportunity to increase our presence on Wikipedia. However, I need your help if I am going to write these articles - I need references and I need coverage. I also need somebody to walk me through the notable elements of the engine which I can reference to create a support web of sources for Spring as a project.

there was one guy who came in and fuckin' rocked the show.

I think that guy who reported the article takes great pride in establishing notoriety via the persecution of others. Kinda like a politician, really fucking weasel if you ask me.

Since these gaylords want citable references...

can you guys do some googling and find anything that mentions spring or it's projects?

Things that do not count are:
JO BLOWS BIG GAY BLOG
random sites like blues news(IAMANOLDFAGIDON'TKNOWWUTYOUKIDSREAD)
youtube videos

Things that would help:
Reputable magazines that have publish stuff
college papers that suck spring's dick like a starving five dollar hooker

Alright, I have started writing a replacement page. Spring is not a game, it will never fulfill all the requirements for a game article. I am thus starting on an engine article. I need a lot of data for this, as I said above, but this is what I need right now...

1. Spring is coded in C++ - what are the minor languages involved in AI bindings, lua support, and are those significant?
2. What are the technical achievements of the engine? I don't mean features, I mean, features and how they function.
3. What sorts of sources were drawn upon in constructing the engine? I want to connect this article strongly with other sections of Wikipedia.
4. Which people can I use to prop up the legitimacy of the engine?

I also need at least two games to either prepare notable pages for Wikipedia as games, that means, two titles with media coverage - or to give me the references and information to do so.

I hope people are willing to write sections and submit them to me in this thread for integration into the replacement article, or to add them themselves to the article when I put it up.

4. Which people can I use to prop up the legitimacy of the engine?
1. C++, C and Lua are the biggest part of Spring, obviously - but AI bindings exist also for Java and, if I'm not mistaken, C# (but I'm not sure about the status of that project).
2. That it works at all is an achievement ^_^ You can say that it supports a _lot_ of players (~250 if comsharing IIRC), the terrain is deformable, there can be a _lot_ of units on the field and the game remains playable, etc. There's also some notable out-of-tree development that Licho&co. done with Planetwars (very underappreciated IMHO); also, there's a whole ecosystem of file sites and lobbies around the engine.
3. TA and SupCom are the obvious ones. The project kinda went its own way, though.

You can also link to technical stuff like cmake, boost, lua, zlib, opengl, openal, sdl, linux, yadda yadda.
4. Argh - he's selling a game made on Spring, after all. No idea if there's some internet celebrity around here.

You could point them to player stats page and active account count that lobby admins can provide.

AF could you please upload your spring logo to WikiMedia, so it can be used in the wiki article? (WikiMedia just accepts CC-SA2.5, so you have to relicense it)

PS: Please, make a spring wiki page with it too.

Neddie, can you link to the replacement article ? I would have attacked the live article, but I don't want to make a duplicate effort to yours.

Edit: Also, moving the article to "Spring (game engine)" probably makes sense, huh (that would be the same naming convention as used for Source)?

Edit2: jK reminds me - who's the image we're using by? The talk page says that the licence of that is not clear either (and thus potentially up for removal).

User:Psychonaut

Who am I?

Hi, I'm Psychonaut. According to my fellow editors on Wikipedia, I am

* insane, envious, and destructive.
* inclined towards stupidity.
* non compos mentis and mentally disturbed.
* a nosy, lying troll.
* incapable of comprehending many things.
* specially permitted by the Wikipedia administrators to stalk, harass, and lie about people.
* spending 24 hours on Wikipedia to complain about people.
* an opportunistic bully who attacks soft targets.
* pursuing a vendetta by deliberately stating half-truths and misinterpretations.
* a Serb who defends Serb interests on Wikipedia.
* actively trying to stop a small group of people putting forward socialist ideas.
* a biased, one-sided genocide denier who deserves to be blocked.
* pushing a Holocaust denial point of view.
* an advocate of Romani-bashing.
* writing racist articles about gypsies.
* a self-imagined "civilizer" of gypsies.
* an antiziganist.
* a dirty Serbian piece of shit who wants to delete articles dealing with Serb crimes.
* a Serbian thug who disrupts Wikipedia to delete articles speaking the truth about the massacres against Bosniak children.
* a Serbian extremist who tries to erase the crimes his people committed in Bosnia.
* a fascist vandal.
I don't know if this is supposed to be humor, but I find slightly disturbing that such a person was let run amok on wikipedia.

And the whole deal about "marked for deletation because not notable" is a big failure of wikipedia. Along with "source required, and no original research" and "NPOV". Instead of being about truth like I would expect an encyclopedia to be, it's just about buzz.
