Mod name stealing

Can there please be made a rule which prevented people from obviously stealing a mods name just to gain players thanks to its reputation?

People get punished for stealing clan tags, stealing nicknames, why not mod names?

Referring to http://www.spring-portal.com/index.php/ ... unofficial

[16:40:17] <[S44]Nemo> using the modname and upversioning it is pretty much equivalent to what yan/basic did. if you make a mutator, name it something different and don't pretend you're carrying on the work of the proper BA devs by upversioning
I agree with this.

I think "BA unofficial" is fine, personally, as the 'unofficial' clearly states that the mod is not the BA. Were it omitted, I'd agree with you completely.

It's omitted in the Lobby under the Battle List - if NOIZE wanted to release 6.62 now he can't due to this mod...

Ah...in that case, yes, definitely unacceptable.

i dont think 6.61 should fall under this rule, since its just someone fixing ba to work with the new version of spring without altering any gameplay-affecting variables

Yeah,if its a "good guy" he can do it but if its a "bad guy" he cant.

Fine define than when it is allowed to take a mod's name and when it isn't and i will agree with you.
Define it specifically so that there will be a clear understanding of when exactly it is allowed.

6.61 was a bugfix - it did not change the gameplay in any way whatsoever at all, just made BA work with the latest build of Spring. 6.62, the case we're talking about now, is an anti-commbombing hack. It falls under the same realm of your shenanigans.

If you can't tell the difference, there's no hope for you.

expecting yan to understand anything in that rotten mind of his is near impossible. You all get points for doing the noble thing and trying with him.

I dont think thas is adequate enough.
for example:
1) Ever since the many spring updates of late BA had a problem with AA missing targets cause of a new way in which flighttime is calculated in spring.
This is a bug.
Can someone now make another bugfix release to correct that?
2) I'm not sure if its still relevant after the latest spring release, but BA had an issue with units and turrets hurting themselves when shooting if an enemy unit or structure was adjacent to them.
That is a bug as well can a third person release a BA version where that bug is fixed?
3) How about bugs related to visual errors?
like missiles coming out of a turret from the wrong place.
Can someone now release a new BA version where he fixes those bugs?
4) what about sound bugfixing, like the metal extractor sounds or pyro sounds etc...

User hotfixes are discouraged no matter what.

Yeah I could have waited for NOIZE to come online and uploaded 6.61 himself when in the meantime someone made their own release with peewee launchers and flying LRPCs and stuff, but I took the initiative as I knew 100% that there'd be no problem with 6.61 as I've been working with NOIZE on BA for weeks now, I should have really edited out the 'unofficial' part a day or so later once it was cleared.

I wouldn't support people upversioning with their own balance "fixes" either.

(also yan is obviously just trolling and knows he's wrong so... )

If your part of the dev team than it was an official release.
I find it offensive when users here call me yan it is not my nickname, please stop.
