When I suggested ubuntu I did not suggest it as an alternative to windows.
I suggested it as a live cd to use while you're fixing windows, there's quite a big difference.
It's like going on holiday to japan and not using yen because when you get back home you're going to be using dollars, so why bother eating drinking and sleeping in japan with those yen when you'll have dollars when you get home?
