Ingame Keyboard - Key explainations

Post by Pendrokar »

It is hard for anyone to find a place where you can overlook an "What does this key do in Spring?" and only a few will bother looking into uikeys.txt, So I made an simple Keyboard Key explainer -

Image

I have seen many people not using rotation or some other Spring Features and asking how to do it!

f1 is the heightmap not the smoothness of surface map.

f2 isnt the same as f1, its actually the blocking map and shows green and red. When selecting a none moving unit it reverts to heightmap.

f3 goes to the last marker placed too

page up and page down arent zoom, they're altitude/height, and increase/decrease the y value while not taking into account the other axis.

J isnt lock camera, its middle click.

You also missed out ~ or | or \ for drawing
alt for inserting unit at start of factory queue
B for debug mode
alt+q groupAI
f6 disable enable/sound
; toggle radar in los view
ctrl+j change camera
ctrl+ scroll wheel change camera angle in OTA view
f7 quickload
shift+alt drag boxes

I think its a good idea, but its in need of corrections here and there.

This would really benefit from a flash version.

I can't call it heightmap Cause a normal heightmap looks like this:
http://nathguil.free.fr/SearchAndRescue ... ap_tmp.png
f2 isnt the same as f1, its actually the blocking map and shows green and red. When selecting a none moving unit it reverts to heightmap.
Ill need more space!
f3 goes to the last marker placed too
It is hard to find the right words
page up and page down arent zoom, they're altitude/height, and increase/decrease the y value while not taking into account the other axis.
And how do I say this shorter (Change cameras y coordinate?)
J isnt lock camera, its middle click.
I know Lock Camera(to mouse) seemed shorter

ctrl+j change camera

shift+alt drag boxes
Ill work on it!!

PS. azerty qwerty only changes z vs y right?

Waiting is pause-ing a units orders and go means unpausing it!

Hmm if you think a Keyboards layout where you press a key a window shows it's default binding and explains what does it do? Couldn't be so hard acctually! + I got flash

whats shocking is that as complicated as that keyboard mapping is, theres still loads i know you missed, and more commands that i don't know about.

e.g. I just learnt that < and > changes through the tabs from that sheet.

I still dont know if there is a keyboard command to capture something, theres also a way in spectator mode to watch the game from the perspective of the player you are watching (e.g. you can only see their LOS), but i cant remember how you do this.

Some useful things to be added:

ctrl+ z
ctrl + a
ctrl + b
x
ctrl/shift/alt when in a factory
;
pause break
that key under escape for drawing

There are some seriously random key commands in spring. Off the top of my head some obscure things nobody really uses:

shift + < or > changes the transparency of the GUI

there are SIX different key bindings to change the camera view, any combination of ctrl / shift + J/backspace/middle mouse

ctrl + x im not entirely sure what this does, it seems to pick out all the attacking units on the screen, but you have to press it several times to get it to do that. Also, when you have a non attacking unit selected it doesn't de-select it...its wierd.

home/end - i really dont have a clue what increasing/decreasing view radius does- it doesnt seem to do anything visually :S

Look out across the horizon on a large map with lots of cliffs and hills. Notice how the further away you get the more deformed the terrain appears? Increase the view radius and it gets more detailed.

Now reduce the view radius. Watch as the garbled terrain approaches, and youll see that after a point spring stops rendeirng terrain and just shows water. A view radius of 10 will only draw terrain within a radius of 10, with the detail getting worse as it approaches the edge of the drawn square.

/specfullview 0 - shows only the los of selected player
/specfullview 1 - default mode
/specfullview 2 - allows you to select any arbtirary units regardless of wether your on their team spectating. cltr+a selects all units on the map.

and yes pg up/dwn is altitude. If your looking at a unit in the distance, zooming will move the camera closer, pg up/dwn will just move the camera higher and lower

Here is a nifty example clearing up the camera page up and down aswell as a few other things:

This kinda depends on your camera though... Scrolling (zooming) in FPS view makes you move on your camera's local Y axis

V2 Ready(Was rdy a day after V1, just ididn't get internet then).
Image

Missing - Ctrl + A/X/C/W (Which are just for selecting all air units, const., attack able units...)(If I make these then the layout will be in even much bigger Chaos as it is)
